Samsung Galaxy S3 will not turn on

i owned a samsung galaxy note gt-n7000. i was trying to upgrading my os from 4.03 to jelly bean and suddenly my phone turned off by it self and wont turn on again. ive tried so many but nothing happened. i was so freak out. it was a rooted phone also, could anyone help me please?:'(:(

pcloadletterWTF,
It may just be the little plastic piece that actually depresses the Power switch mechanism. You should try taking the phone out of the case just to make sure the case isn't pressing on the Power button by accident. If that doesn't make any difference, pop the back off and see about blowing compressed air around the switch mechanism. (I ended up [very carefully] popping the plastic button off, cleaning the gunk around the Power switch and then putting the plastic piece back on - YMMV.)

Nurul,
You'll have better luck posting in the Galaxy Note forums. They'll be able to steer you to the correct files to load, etc.

Note that typically, if your phone is rooted, you can't upgrade the OS through normal means.

You should be able to use the Kies software on your PC to reload the stock firmware.

Thank you very much for your advice. I tried compressed air this morning but no dice so far. I removed the battery and sprayed all around and through the switch area. I know it has to just be gummed up somehow. If Samsung refuses to cover it (more than likely considering it's over a year old,) I'm going to try and take the plastic mid-case off and get closer to the problem. I'll report back either way.Looking at the teardowns on iFixIt, the power button and its button/cover are very flimsy looking. I am sure some minuscule amount of debris got in there and is causing it to jam in the engaged position. Such fragile things these pieces of technology are. It happens.

Yep, they are pretty fragile - I was removing the hard back case one day and it tore the plastic Power button right off the phone, and broke one of the legs in the process. I've been fortunate that once I put it in it's stayed there.

Yikes! Hmm. I am one of those people that swaps out the battery for a fully charged spare when my phone dies. You don't think removing the cover so frequently caused it to break the power button somehow? I use two oem batteries and one QCell. None have ever swollen/corroded/leaked and I've always been careful not to get the inside dirty.

Anyway, I tried a thorough cleaning and so far it's a no go. Samsung and AT&T want nothing to do with it. I've tried everything on the software side pretty much. I'm certain the button is broken internally. I think I'm just going to take the plunge and mail it out to MobileTechVideos. I realllly do not want to be relegated to an ancient phone for a few weeks.

Nah, just taking the back off wouldn't cause any issues with the Power button.

Good luck with the repair.

UPDATE: So as a last ditch effort, I tried an AT&T device support center a little far away from my home. I talked with a rep for a while. After initially stating that there was nothing that could (phone was completely out of warranty,) the rep/technician decided to give me a new/refurbed phone anyway. I have been a customer for a long time and have never brought a phone in to be replaced, so I think he decided to cut me a break. The new one seems fine and has a 90 day warranty. I'm seriously so happy that I didn't have to shell out for a new phone or send the old one away for repair.

My phone does not come back on. it cracked last year when i dropped it on concrete. my phone has been working perfectly fine since then. The past 5 days my phone has been cutting off then cutting back on. Yesterday 10/19/2013, i was using twitter when my phone notified me that i only had 5% left before my phone died. So, as i was walking upstairs to go charge my phone, it turns off like its been doing for the past 5 days. As i have been doing, i removed my battery for 2 minutes then replaced it back inside the phone and tried to turn it on. Nothing happen not even a Vibrate or nothing. So, i did the exact same thing then placed my phone on the charger. The battery logo did not pop up. I tried to use my sisters battery and it still has not came on. I have tried to Reset the Phone by Holding all 3 of the buttons, and still nothing happend! PLEASE Help Me! I need my phone to work i'm bored w. out it . . :( :'(

and how to do it? sorry but would appreciate if you could help. :(

Here's an overview of what to do:
- if you don't already have the Kies software installed on your PC, download it (just search Google) and install it. The first time it runs it'll update itself to the latest version so make sure you run it once before proceeding.
- put your phone in Download mode: with the phone completely off, press and hold the Volume Down and Home and Power buttons simultaneously, and release them all when you see the Samsung splash screen
- connect the phone to your PC with the USB cable that came with the phone
-- if you've never had the phone connected to your Windows-based computer before, you'll see messages about installing drivers, etc - just wait until this is done (may take 5 or 10 minutes) [I don't know what happens if you have a Mac - it probably just works]
- in the Kies software, select the second item in the Tools menu and just follow the prompts to enter the model number (in CAPS) and IMEI/Serial Number (both found under the battery - it's ok to remove the battery at this point)
- the Kies software should start downloading the correct firmware for your phone from the Internet; once that's done (depending on your Internet connection speed) it'll begin downloading that to the phone (this probably takes 10 minutes or so)

If the phone is completely off (ala battery pull) and you can't get the battery graphic to show then you're in trouble. Try different chargers AND cables just to be sure that's not the source of the charging problem, and give your sister's battery a shot too. If none of that pans out then it's time to look at getting it repaired/replaced.

A long shot, in case the micro-USB port is the problem, would be to purchase a wireless charging solution, but I'd hate for you to throw good money away (unless your sister might use it).

I have an S3 and it was happening a lot and now it just froze and died. THis phone cost me $570 bucks out of my hard earned money. We spend money on a phone you rely on and I feel these companies know this information and choose not to divulge or do something about it. Instead they say is not enough for Samsung to look into it and take care of the situation.... its all about making money and screw the people!! NOT COOL!!!

Ich auch

I have the exact same issue mentioned a dozen posts back or so where the red LED comes on when you plug in the charger with no battery. Nothing works. I called Samsung, they will NOT good will the repair for an out of warranty phone (contrary to what somebody posted on page 2 or 3). Repair costs are $70.36. Even worse they WILL wipe all the data on the phone, even if the repair can be fixed without wiping anything. "It's for your privacy protection". If I could find some info about the cause/fix, I might attempt this myself (I've fixed iPhones before, replaced cracked screens, etc) but I haven't been able to find a specific fix for this red LED problem :(

Update:
After looking around, it appears the mainboard is difficult to source. The part alone on eBay is twice the cost of paying Samsung to do the work. I also checked places like ifixit and looked for other repair places, but seems they are only offering screen replacements. I guess I have no practical choice but to let Samsung to the work.

I had an issue with my S3 today. I dropped it about mid afternoon, but the phone worked after I dropped it. I was driving back to my shop and never got a phone call or text, thought it was odd as I just texted my wife, but did not check my phone. I checked my phone two hours later, seemed to be dead. I thought maybe the battery died, but I never saw the red light blink, nor heard the phone yell at me. Still pondering the idea that it may be dead, I plugged it into a charger (Galaxy Note 1 charger) and it would not show any signs of charging or turning on. I pulled the battery and waited a minute or so, plugged batter back in, did not press any buttons, and the phone went to the 'Samsung' and then the 'Samsung Galaxy S3' logos, but not the secondary 'Samsung' logo with animation nor the AT&T logo.

I tried all the hard resetting, debug mode, and plugging in while battery out stuff. I was upset when I read in this forum that some people thought the phone needed replacement. I started doing anything I could to get the phone to work. I tried taking battery out and plugging in the charger, but a red notification light came on for about three seconds and went off. Nothing seemed to work.

I DID finally get my S3 to WORK!

What I did was, unplugged from charger, took out battery, took out sim card and micro SD card, plugged charger back in, replaced battery. The phone did a full cycle and was working again, all I had to do was put my sim card and SD card back in and restart the phone. My battery was at 58% so no, the battery did not die and get 'just enough juice' to turn on after this period.
