Samsung Galaxy S3 won't update to 4.3

Hi to anyone that can help!!

I have been trying and trying to update my Galaxy s3 to 4.3 but every time I try, it downloads the package, asks to install, I accept, it reboots itself to update the phone and then when it turns back on it says the update has failed and that I need to use kies or contact the Samsung service centre. I am really confused as me, my mum and brother have the same phone, their phones have updated without problem yet mine won't. I can't use 'Kies' because I don't have a lead to connect to the computer so does anyone have any tips or know how to sort it out.
Can anyone help this is sooo frustratinggg

Is your phone rooted, or otherwise modified in any way? The OTA will generally not install unless your phone is unmodified.

As far as the "lead" to connect to the computer, the one that came with the charger for your phone will work fine. Or you can but a standard micro-USB charging cable at any electronics store (e.g., Best Buy) or office supply store.

I get the same thing. I have rooted my phone, stock root only no custom rom. I invoked the SuperSU app and did the "unroot" function but it still won't update.

I also tried downloading the Samsung Toolkit from the Samsung website. Huge file. It won't unzip in either of my computers (Windows XP & Windows 8). Seems to be a problem with the file. I've tried re-downloading it several times and same result. I was going to try and do the 4.3 update using that Toolkit.

So what do I need to do?

If your phone is rooted then you probably have custom Recovery software also installed (CWM; TWRP). As the previous poster mentioned, the OTA generally will not work if the phone has been modified.

I also tried downloading the Samsung Toolkit from the Samsung website.

I'm not sure what this toolkit is. If you install the Kies software from Samsung you can return your phone to the stock firmware, and once you do that you can either use Kies to do the update or just accept the OTA.

Unfortunately, I have the same issue.

My phone was rooted, but when trying to unroot it, I killed the motherboard and sent it to Samsung for repair.
They replaced the board and reinstalled the firmware.

But still, it downloads, installs till 30% or so and says failure, use Kies or bring to Samsung.

No my phone isn't rooted or modified. And I am not using a Samsung charger to charge my phone because it was charging so slowly so I might have to get a new lead. I just don't understand why mine wont update but my other family members phones will yet they both have all the same settings.

I don't know why it won't update OTA. If I had the phone in hand I might be able to figure something out, but obviously that's not practical. I overlooked the fact that your family members also have S3s. Can you use one of their cables to see if your phone charges correctly, and to try to update with Kies?

I will see whether or not the phone will update through kies and then let you know the outcome.
Also another problem I have is that when I connect my phone to my laptop it doesn't show up anywhere. I tried downloading numerous amounts of software so it could work on the disc drive but it doesn't seem to be working. Anyone else have this problem?

What are those numerous amounts of software? All you should need to do is install Kies, which will install the Samsung drivers.

I have the same problem.

My Samsung Galaxy S3 is NOT rooted. I try to update my i9300 using OTA but not work. I can download, click on install botton, then the phone reboot and when upgrade process complete 31% the phone is rebooted again and display a message "Failed to upgrade the firmware". Try again using PC sotware (KIES) or visit a Sansung Service Center ... I try to update from KIES, but not work either, KIES download the firmware but after that the KIES y back to the home.

I leave in Dominican Republic and my service provider is Orange Dominicana

Was your phone in Download mode when Kies was trying to do the firmware update?
You could try the second item in the Tools menu (Firmware upgrade and initialisation) and see if you have any better luck.

I updated my s3 to 4.3. I can download and install the package. When it turn back on, It says 'The device is succesfully updated'. But when I check the version on the settings, it is still on 4.1.2.

Same issue with my S3. The android version is 4.1.2 and when trying to update it says latest updates already installed on your phone. The model number is GT-I9300, Australia region. Can anyone please help.

Is it the GT-i9300T (the Australia-specific version) or the GT-i9300 (the generic International version)?
Which carrier are you with?
What build is it currently running (see Settings -> About phone -> Baseband version)?
