Have you tried a restart of reboot into recovery to wipe cache?

And what would that help me? Is there a reason why this is happening?

With a clearing of cache, it may help due to conflicting data between old ROMs and new. Restart just because it is essier.

If I wipe cache from recovery mode will it wipe my data from my phone? Like apps and messages?

Sometimes our phones get funky for no reason. They are advanced pieces of technology. But between downloading new apps, codes being rewritten, and folders with system tools being deleted, it might take a restart and cache clear to get our phone back on page one. A restart will close all runnings apps and temp cache incase there is something with a bug hiding out. The cache clean will reach the rest of the unwanted temp files and such that are not located in the temp cache.

Yes, Jenni is correct and undoubtedly she is best. You can try for restart first and if that won't work then try cache clear option, if anyone face such type of problem. It is helpful, if there are any phone hang problem.
