So I picked up an s4 last week and have been loving it much better than my iphone, but I have discovered a problem: group messaging. I have a group message with 4 people in it, and 3 of the people's group texts stay in that one thread. However, my friend who has an s4 like myself seems to send his group messages into an individual thread. Does anybody know a solution to this problem? I dont want to use a third-party app, just want to know if I can fix this somehow. All my other group texts are working except for my friend with the Galaxy S4...

Is your friend with the s4 using the stock messaging app or another app?

Edit: didn't realize the person above asked the same question. Too quick to reply.

tell him to use the stock app, thats his problem
I hate the stock app, but unfortunately it's the only option for now it seems

I use go sms for my group messaging and it works perfect

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 and it appears to be an issue with the messaging app you're using. I am using chompSMS (awesome app because its just like the messaging app I use to use for my old iPhone), I can receive group messages on chompSMS but if I replied or I tried to send a group text, its sent individually to all recipients. I was testing this with a couple of people and it appears if you send a group message via the stock messaging app, it is sent as a group message and the individuals receiving can view all the recipients in that distribution.

So it appears to be an issue with the messaging app you're using to send and receive texts. If you're using the stock messaging app and its still not working make sure you go to settings and check off "Group conversations" under the "Multimedia message (MMS) settings" section.

I really hope the developers of chompSMS can come around and resolve this issue. Wondering if this has been a new issue (Jellybean update perhaps) or its been ongoing for a while? No idea on my part cause I just converted from Apple to Android.

Tell him to go into his Messages settings and make sure the Group Messaging box is checked

I'm getting this problem too!! I have a Galaxy s4 and my friend just got one too. I'm on T-Mobile and hes on Verizon. There's me, my brother, and my friend. My brother is also on Verizon. When we do a group message, my brother sees mine and his messages as a group. My friend with the s4 sees mine and my brothers messages as a group. I see my brothers (who has a droid) message as a group message, but not my friend with the s4. it comes to me in a one on one text.... anyone find a fix? xD Oh i'm using the stock messaging app and they are as well!

My buddy has the same problem. Everyone including him see the the group texts, except when I send a text. He gets an individual text from me while everyone else sees my message in the group. I have a verizon s4 and he has a att s4. Have not found an answer yet...

I should also mention he only has this problem with me....

I have a problem when texting my friends in a group when they had iPhone the messages worked then 2 or them got a Verizon gs4 and it just sends in a seperate thread now.

Has anyone found an answer to this yet? I'm having the same issue with group texting with my two best friends. (My friend has an S3 on Verizon). I just find it kind of hard to believe that Verizon hasn't made ANY mention of this or anything. I realize it's not as widespread as other obvious texting problems, but to me, this also isn't something that's as easily solved as checking an option in settings.

Same problem here. Followed all the steps with no resolution. I thought it was a problem with just the Galaxy S4, but I have a friend that just got an LG phone and having the same problem.

I can't believe this hasn't been resolved yet.

I'm thinking that maybe it's a problem between providers. I'm a Verizon S3, and two other family members are Sprint customers on a family account (Nexus and an S4). Both see my texts as split from the group. All using stock SMS.

Just assuming and don't know anything for sure. It may be possible that you can't resolve this issue on your phone alone. You may have to make sure that everyone in the group has their phone turned on for group messaging. Friend 1, 2, and 3 might have group messagin turned on but friend 4 does not. So when Friend 1 sends a group text to 2, 3, and 4 they will receive it and reply. The replies would come back with 2 and 3 included in the group becaus they have group messaging turned on, but when friend 4 replies, it goes to an individual text because friend 4 does not have group messaging turned on. Just a guess, try getting together and setting all the phones to allow group messagin and see if that works, but what it boils down to is you can't control what others phones are set to and how they respond to your group message.

Personally, group messaging annoys the crap out of me on my phone so I will start a whole new message and just send to the one person I'm talking to and stay out of the group (keeps me out of trouble too).

Hope this helps you guys to figure out a solution. I'm having the opposite pain of tryin to make sure group messaging is completely turned off so I don't have to start a new message every time I get a group message.

I have Samsung Galaxy S4. I received a message I thought was coming from one person. Only one name appearing at top of message. Suddenly another person chimed in on the discussion. I thought it was from person who's name was at top. Finally after few sentences I said what r u talking about and the other person identified themselves and said I was in a group text. SOMEONE TELL ME WHY ALL THE PEOPLE DIDN'T SHOW AT TOP. What if I had said something I didn't want that person to see? ANY WAY TO FIX THIS? Do I need to change a setting somewhere? Any help much appreciated.
