Samsung Galaxy S4 Outsells iPhone 5

Should I be happy?

I'm going to predict the future. Apple iPhone 5S outsells Samsung Galaxy S4.

To be fair, I do not think this includes iPhone 5 sales from Apple stores. Not sure if it matters but before someone comes on here and makes accusations.

A current device from '13 is outselling a device from 2012... Now that's a surprise.

The GS4 should be compared to Apple's upcoming iPhone model, not it's predecessor.

No point in comparing it to something that isn't even revealed and by that time it's likely we'll be talking Note 3 while rumors fly around for the S5 and how it will compete against that new iPhone.

The Galaxy S4 was just released and interest in the device was high. It's no surprise that the GS4 bested the iPhone 5 during its debut month. The same thing happened in 2012 when the Galaxy S III launched. Samsung's smartphone outsold the iPhone 4S during August 2012 ahead of the iPhone 5's debut.

Imagine that, a sales trend based on release cycles.

Honestly this goes back and worth. Bigger surprise though is that the iPhone 5 outsold the S4 on ATT. I wonder if that has to do with ATT having the iPhone first and having an entrenched market because of that fact. I know I switched to ATT because of the exclusivity of the iPhone a few years ago. Although I was unhappy with the constant billing changes that Verizon was pulling and eventually got hit with a 30 million dollar fine for, the iPhone was the biggest change for my switch.

And there's even less point comparing it a previous generation device.

I mean, how's the S4 selling compared to the original iPhone? Or how about compared to the Honda Accord?

It's entirely and ridiculously irrelevant.

EDIT: Who cares about the Note 3? That's a niche market and it's sales are in no way comparable to an iPhone, or almost any other device.

I think the more surprising takeaway is that the One was in third place on all carriers. That's a good sign for HTC. The S4 and iPhone 5 will be flip flopping places from now until the new iPhone in the fall. (I also wouldn't be surprised if another analyst releases numbers tomorrow saying the opposite of this report)
