The $77.77 is 8.5% sales tax on $915 (total price of the device). I don't think you're "required" to purchase the $50 gift card if you pre-order online....

Yah just did my pre order and they did the $50 card. They basically said it's to get in the system and the $50 gift card is just like an instant refund. You're not actually paying for the card. You're putting down $50 and getting it right back on a gift card. But so stoked I was able to have it all work out and get me the wireless charger too!

EDIT: will be using my $50 to spend on a case for the phone. Hopefully they have a clear case cause this phone looks so good.
