Samsung Galaxy S6 Screen rotation won't work

same problem here, although most apps will rotate, photos will not. If I turn off screen rotation then back on, it seems to fix the issue.. but only temporary. I'm guessing the problem I'm having is only software related. Hopefully an update will resolve this issue.

So I had 2 s6 edge phones and both stopped rotating the screen. I went to verizon today and got an s6 instead. When I got home and charged it, it started getting HOT like the last 2 phones. So I panicked and unplugged it. Then I remembered I had an old micro USB charger laying around the house and decided to try it. Lo and behold, the phone cooled back down. It's definitely the charger -___-

I'm also using the wireless charging and ditched the fast cable crap for now.. im on my second edge.. btw im new here as of today. Also, do you know what the blinking blue light is on the wireless charger? It only happened to me once. Another thing that irritates me about the fast charger is that you have to place it right on the sweet spot or it wont charge.... super delicate and i dont like that. my wife sets her purse down on the table and ughh you get the picture...

I don't use a wireless charger. I use a regular micro usb charger

So we got a new S6 and guess what.... the problem of the screen not rotating came back.
My husband got searching on youtube and found this video: **to which I can't link because I don't have enough posts** but you can find it using:
Samsung Galaxy S6 screen rotation Bug work around

The solution worked for us. So it does seem to be a software glitch.

Did u use a sensor check app to see if it was the accelerometer that was stuck?

Hi everyone. Try going into display setting and enable smart stay. I've done this on mine and screen rotation started working fine so far. Hope this helps.

I would say it's software because of two factors:

1: The wallpaper moves perfectly still when angling the phone, this uses the gyroscope

2: I downloaded an app to test the gyroscope and it works.

Latest round of updates are fixing it on the edge forum. Thing is, it is using a different sensor for rotation and masking a hardware failure. Big thread on the edge forum about it

I have had my S6 for 4 days and I noticed last night my camera seemed to be 'stuck' in landscape mode, and the same for some of my games and the internet wouldn't rotate...I googled the issue, one person suggested, though didn't recommend, slapping the phone...believe it or not, I slapped my phone and then shook it pretty hard, voila! Problem fixed.

I too have this issue after a few days of use of my standard galaxy S6....hoping someone can help us. It just stopped working after a couple of days of having my phone and I'll be jiggered if I can figure out what to do next. Exactly the same as you. :'(:'(

Will try the youtube link and fingers crossed!

The definitive answer:

It's a hardware issue that's caused by software.

Rumors of the "Fast charge" and "Wireless charge" causing heat-induced failure of the sensor are true. The heat causes the faulty part to stick, rendering rotation broken. I know this because my phone was in repair for 3 weeks waiting on the part, and now works fine. The new software updates (check your carrier for revision) fix this issue lowering the "cool down" temp stopping the phone from overheating. If you had it break before your update, the update will not fix it.

Two options: Swap phone at carrier or send in to Samsung.

I've seen this at the Galaxy S6 Edge forum. But no-one seems to have a 'normal' S6 128GB with the same problem except me (so far).
Has anyone had this problem and fixed it?

What I've done so far:
-Checked that the button for Screen Rotation was ON
-Safe mode to see if a third party app was interfering with the programming
-Factory reset

None worked, my screen still won't rotate. It's stuck in portrait mode.
I opened up the package with my phone this morning. It worked fine in the beginning. But no longer.

If anyone has an idea on how to fix it I'd be happy to listen and try it out.

I have the note 5. I've had it 3 days now. It wouldn't rotate when I 1st got i . After rebooting it started working. Now it's not working again and rebooting has no effect.

Well I must be the second! Tried all of the above but no rotation.
Just turned phone off and restarted. Rotation working perfectly again!

So, I have the Galaxy 6s as well, and sure enough I too got this problem.

Tried pretty much everything mentioned above with no success. I downloaded the adaptive rotation lock and I can now click on the screen and have it landscape. Not the best, however, I don't want to go through the hassle of calling support and having to get a new phone.

This will probably my last galaxy phone.

I am having thay issue right now, but cannot locate where the rotation option is. It disappeared!

Today is 11-27-2016. I went to the top of my home screen. Swiped down to show me my quick launch settings. You have a setting that says "portrait". Tap that icon and it will switch to "auto rotate". There problem solved.
