I am a huge Samsung fan and have had many of their smartphones over the years with no issues.

I was really excited to get the S7 edge and got it the first week it came out. Within the first few charges, I started to notice very thin hairline stress cracks under the gorilla glass. After subsequent charges, more and more appeared. You can barley see them unless you look in the sun when the screen is off. When the screen is on they are barley noticeable. The phone has never been dropped or any pressure applied!

Anyone look at their screen when the phone is off in direct light? Take a peek, I honestly feel I can't be the only one out there to experience this.

Spent hours on the phone with Samsung, to no avail. Sad.

Do you rapid charge the phone? I'm wondering if the added heat of rapid charging is causing issues. I never rapid charge my phone.

I did rapid charge the phone, but noticed additional cracks when I wasn't using the rapid charger. I've read about similar problems with the S6 edge, but not too many people talking about stress cracks on the S7 edge.

Oh yeah I have many. I first noticed them on my note 4 and it bugged me for the life of the phone but now I'm used to it. I roll with no screen protector or case so I feel like that's the price I pay. Don't worry you're not alone .

Are you sure they are not scratches in the Oleophobic coating? After reading your post again, that's what it sounds like. I look at mine under the sun and see a few fine scratches. They are just that, scratches not cracks. I bet you have no screen protector.

I’m using a Zagg screen protector. I noticed a bright edge from the crack (think of the shiny edge of cracked glass), so I took it off to inspect. There is an edge to the cracks that glisten in the light and it really looks like it is under the gorilla glass. I tried to take a pic but it’s tough.

The shape of the fractures also leads me to believe they are not scratches. They are uniform in shape and they all look like a hair and have perfect curvature like a hair and popped up at random times, even when I was not using the phone. Wish it was just a hair that I could remove 

While I am pretty sure these are not scratches of the coating, how can I be for certain there are no coating scratches, other than I had a protector on 

Hey- I'm glad I decided to do some Google-Fu. I noticed a chip in the glass of my S7 Edge, the phone had been sitting in my purse all night, in a pocket, inside the purse, so I don't know what caused it. My purse is not a big purse, and the pocket I keep it in is designed to fit your cell phone. (I admit, it is a Michael Kors purse, fancy schmancy, good, well made purse)

Several days later, I was working in my yard. The phone was on the porch, on a table. My husband called, so I took the call- and when I hung up, I noticed a crack in the glass which seemed to come from where the edge of where the case is. I was really upset, but I wanted to get the yard work done before the rain moved in, so I just put the phone back down and when I finished up, a couple of hours later- there was ANOTHER crack. The phone hadn't even been touched!!! I filed a repair ticket through the Samsung website, and they wanted to charge me almost 70 for repairs. Meanwhile I am out of a phone for a few days. I am disabled, and I rely on having my phone close in case of an emergency. I spoke to someone through the Samsung webchat and was told to call them directly with my repair ticket number and my concerns about the glass and the cost of repair, and that it would get waved. I am going to call them tomorrow and find out if this is true. I pre-ordered mine through Verizon, and the deductible is huge, so I'm hoping they just repair it for me. It's pretty obvious when you look at the phone itself that it hasn't been dropped, and there is no obvious reason for the damage. The screen isn't scratched or dented in any way, aside from the mystery chip, and the two stress fractures in the glass.

If you notice this, I will try to remember to update you after I speak with Samsung tomorrow. Did you register your product online when you bought it? I have been buying and using Samsung products for ages now, and this is the very first issue, or complaint, that I have ever had. I was using a basic flip phone for ages, to help us save money (military family), so getting a nice, cool new phone was a pretty big deal to me. I'm the lady that learned to do her own nails just to save money- lol. Needless to say, this has all been really disappointing.

The same happend to me. I can only think it's caused by heat. Mine didn't crack when charging, but instead sitting out in the sun for only ten minutes.
If you have insurance, it should be covered and you'll get a replacement handset.
I popped in to the Samsung store and enquired how much a screen replacement would be, and they advised to just claim insurance as replacing the screen would be more hassle than its worth.

Once you get one crack in a screen, you can expect that crack to spread, and more cracks to appear, even without any additional impacts. So the fact that you saw a second crack later doesn't mean the screen was defective in some way. What caused the first crack is anyone's guess at this point.

Mine did it today. My phone has never been dropped. Picked it up this afternoon and fine cracks that can only be seen when screen black. Multiple ones in middle of screen that can be felt

This has happened to me too, sitting in car with phone in hand, had taken a few pics moments earlier and fine, went to post them online and saw what I thought was a hair across the screen, went to blow it away and no movement, realised it was two hair line cracks and the most tiny chip on one of the cracks. I had not left the phone out of my hand there is no way this happened due to accidental damage, the phone has never been let fall always had a good quality phone cover on it from day one and no scratches whatsoever on the glass apart from this spontaneous cracking. I have logged a ticket with Samsung who have asked me to send it back but keep referring to it as a repair rather than a warranty claim. I'm bitterly disappointed with this handset failure. The decision is in the lap of the gods now as if Samsung won't honour warranty I haven't a leg to stand on.

ETA: Heat was definitely not a factor in this failure

Same thing happened to mine! It was in my pocket, when I think it happened. Luckily, I had the samsung warrenty, but they are still making me pay the deductible! I wonder who I can talk to to get them to pay for their crappy engineering.

Similar thing happened to me!

I **just** purchased a brand new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge not even a full two days ago from my local T-Mobile store. I was sitting at a restaurant this morning and pulled the phone out of my pocket to make a quick call (it was NOT cracked), and slipped it back into my pocket a couple of minutes later (I was only talking on the phone for under two minutes). 30 minutes later, I pulled the phone out of my pocket just to Google a sports score update, and noticed that the screen had cracked at the very bottom. The crack appears to originate from what I believe is an antenna notch (there are two white notches directly underneath the S7 Edge that I'm pretty sure are related to the antenna).

I left the restaurant and immediately called the store where I purchased it from and explained the situation. They said that the only thing they could do is have me pay $200 to have the phone replaced through insurance. I PAID $780 FOR THE DARN THING!!!!! When I said "that's insane, I haven't even owned the phone a full two days", they suggested that I call Samsung.

I then called Samsung. Long story short, the rep told me that Samsung has "temporarily placed a suspension" on "this type" of repair (whatever that means), and that I needed to call Samsung back at a later date and "try again." They did give me a call reference number, but I got absolutely NOWHERE with T-Mobile or Samsung.

I have no idea what to do. I have a brand-spanking new S7 Edge that I've barely touched, and the screen just spontaneously cracked for absolutely NO reason at all.

I did notice that the phone was getting very hot when charging via the original, OEM rapid charger that came with the phone. As someone who has worked in the technical support industry for more than 20 years (supporting mobile devices like this), I think it's a heat-related issue. Keep in mind that when the phone is charging, it's simply sitting on a table in a very cool, dry office. It was never dropped, bumped, or under ANY kind of physical pressure whatsoever during the 1 1/2 days that I've owned it so far.

Highly upset and frustrated. I paid full carrier price ($800+ including tax) for this phone, and they're asking an addition $200 to replace it. This isn't even a tablet!!!!!!!

Not sure what to do...

Hi guys, can someone explain to me appear the crack of s7 edge's screen without dropping? The phone was never dropped and was at home last days. We tried remember where we could drop the phone at home and could not. I has contacted with samsung service to find out why crack is appeared. The answer was also unexpected for us, beacuse we are sure that cell phone was not dropped. So seems the screen of the enge is so fragile that you never remember where you can drop it. I had iphone before and i always remember all drops the phone. If i drop i can see the cracks as the result. I always know about it. But not with samsung. I guess the quality of samsung is going worse and worse. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1...?key=emtjN2FsOXlUTXA0UGM5UGdkU0dlNDdHNElvOHln
