It seems like she 'takes care' of her phone like the mafia 'takes care' of its competition. Without you observing the phone at every moment for the whole day, there's no way you could say that she's treating her device properly. If she puts it in her pocket like you says she does, that excessive scratching on the home button can be from a metal rivet that jeans (or similar pants) have that rubs against the glass as she's walking around. And seeing as how women's clothes have smaller/shallower/nonfunctioning pockets, and lots of women walk around with their phones in their rear pockets that's definitely a possibility. The swirl marks could be from her putting it into a purse without checking to see what else is in there (loose particles of sand or dirt like the other commenters have suggested), or by her putting it face down on a table without checking to see if it's clean. And those scuffs on the bottom rear and top front seems like awfully convenient points of contact if she were to put her phone into a car's cup holder without checking to see if it's clean first.

An issue with the coating could (in theory) be a possibility but I'm more convinced it's user error. I just hope that the fingerprint sensor still works despite it being all scuffed up like that Also, just a tip for you and anyone else that wants to post up phones showing scuffs/scratches (or lack thereof): clean your phone and put it in proper lighting! I know our phones are fingerprint magnets but still...

I don't think it's a coating issue. If that were the case, it would be more widespread. I haven't heard any complaints (about the finish anyway) on the S7/Edge.

Thanks Monica, you and the Android Central community as a whole have been helpful in figuring out what's wrong with her phone. While I don't agree with all of the feedback, I really do appreciate the fact that people are taking time out of their day to help us out. We're still due to head out to Verizon sometime this week too

Before I dropped and cracked mine, it had gotten a few scratches on it as well as a deep one. I take very good care of my phones and they go in my pocket most of the time. All I ever carry in my pocket is a military ID and a campus ID. There was one time that I did place my point and shoot in the same pocket as my S7 but only once. They're hairline scratches, barely visible unless under bright light.

I don't believe it's hard to scrach Gorilla glass, I think it's all marketing. My S4 never had those problems. But I don't care anymore, obviously, as my phone got shattered and so I'm getting a new one with a protector and case.

Looks like the phone was placed on an abrasive surface and was twirled around. The back looks like it was scratched while it was going through a combination of getting dragged and picked up. Like one person said if it were a coating issue it would have more than what we are seeing. I had my s5 fall on super abrasive concrete and the screen barerly got a scratch and the border frame was the only thing that got knicked. That phone wasnt even as nicely built as this either. Quite the mystery here.

The scratches you are showing would only happen under EXTREME use. Dragged along pavement, sand etc.... Under normal use those scratches aren't even possible.

Glass Polish. Keep in mind that it would remove any coating on the glass.

I hate the word premium for this very reason..

Because premium means:

1. Glass - more prone to scratches and shattering whatever you do to it

2. Aluminum - can cause signal problems ( remember Applegate) if not designed properly. Arguably can become an oven on a very hot day for a phone, or if the phone os running hot from a lot of gaming.

Non premium means:

Plastics and rubber - Remember when Nokia made plastic and rubber phones that can be run over by a car, dumped in beer, covered with mud, and still work with less outward signs of damage than the OP's S6?

Dude, tell your sister to stop torturing the phone! there's easily visible gap between front glass and frame. Obviously it was dropped hard. Got mine 2+ months and it still like a new one.
