Samsung Galaxy s8 Normal, Edge, and Active

Re: Do you think Samsung will go all out on the S8?

The Note 7 fiasco has happened. Latest reports suggest Samsung may push forward the launching of the S8. This IMO is foolishness and pressing the panic button. If they are seen by the public as hurrying the S8 out and any other significant problems are found with it droves of loyal customers who stayed through the Note 7 uproar will leave(including me). Samsung should take their time with the S8(I.e dot their "T"s , cross their "I"s and triple check their trousers(and skirts) are zipped up properly). I'm still going to get the Note 7.

I totally agree with this. There are more reports that Samsung will release the S8 early. This will be seen by the buying public as rushing to make up for the Note 7. And if there are any significant faults with the S8 because of the rush, it will spell disaster for Samsung for years to come.

In my opinion, Samsung should cut their losses and release the S8 when the Note 7 has faded in public memory.

Very well said. I couldn't agree more. Take the time to get the next flagship as" right" as possible to avoid this kind of situation again.

Re: Do you think Samsung will go all out on the S8?

Do you think Samsung will up the ante on the upcoming S8 so as to compensate for the Note 7 debacle? Is it logistically possible for Samsung to give extra features and specs on the S8 at this stage of development?

You always hear rumours about what's going to be inside the next iteration of a product line. I heard somewhere that there will 4 Galaxy devices next year. (S8, S8 Edge, S8 Active, S8 'premium'). Apparently the premium will have a 4K display.

Even if it's all nonsense, it's still nice to imagine.

Re: Do you think Samsung will go all out on the S8?

Do you have any links for this info?
There's no firm release date yet however, it is reported that they are pushing forward on the S8 for two reasons; the battery fiasco and the luke warn reception to the new iPhone 7. More info here

Are articles like this written just because they have nothing better to do?

First they mention this...
the upcoming Galaxy S8 is expected to ship much sooner than expected.

and then this...
With this in mind, it is almost certain that the phone will be released between late February and early April of 2017.

Don't these people know the S7 was released in Feb 2016? How does "Feb and early April of 2017" constitute an "early" release? Were they "expecting" a release date of July???

Thanks for posting the link. I did end up reading more articles prior to this, and they said basically the same thing. It seems people have different opinions of what constitutes an early release. I guess it remains to be seen.

Re: Do you think Samsung will go all out on the S8?

I guess the article is written in chronological order. Just the first paragraph is useful. The rest of the article is "old news".

I can see that now... I thought it was a single article. Typical journalism pointing to the fact that there's a recall on the Note 7, and calling the iPhone lackluster from their own review, which also contains the substantiated rumors, they can spread rumors about an early release of the S8 without facts. Like I said, it remains to be seen, but if Samsung does release the S8 early, because of the Note 7 fiasco, it'll be a mistake IMO.

I'm actually getting more intrigued with the Edge series the more I see them in the wild... So I may grab a Samsung product in a bit. Edge, for sure. Maybe the 8 Edge!

Wohoo! Bring it on Sammy! I do expect better than the S7 tho! Higher res screen, faster, better camera and a bigger battery please.... WaterPROOF should be a given!

Galaxy S8 4k display - nonsense

I have seen a lot of publications stating that the Galaxy S8 would feature a 4k display. I think Samsung isn't even considering this. If they are they're quite stupid.

To think that bumping the res up to 4k would improve VR experience is as ignorant as saying more RAM = more FPS.

Not only would 4k reduce framerate which is needed if you don't want to puke after 2 minutes from motion sickness but it would also stop you from enjoying more pleasant visual elements like improved lighting effects and model details.

1440p is already arguably more than we need and to tailor a phone for VR is not a good idea because not enough people use it and it's not what people do on their phone most of the time.

Also if it was a 4k display only when viewing content it would also be a mistake because to correctly downscale 4k content you need to downscale it to 1080p (UHD uses exactly 4x the pixels of 1080). Downscaling to 1440p might result in noticeable jagged edges and elements that can ruin the visual experience for 99% of the time that you would be using it.

I'm not attacking Samsung on this because I highly doubt that they will do it. The rumours are just senseless.

I just hope they get rid of the glass back with the next version and give me a S8E+ I don't need the s-pen, so if it saves $100 on the price that good enough for me.

As someone who is interested in perhaps upgrading to an Edge product in the near future - and as someone who would probably be further prone to dropping her precious phone if it had a glass back - I support this statement.

Re: Do you think Samsung will go all out on the S8?

I just hope the s8 Active will be avalible with Verizon, I am dying for an Active, I used one for a few days with AT&T and I loved it. It was the s7 Active. But I am not switching carriers for one phone.
