Both Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ have great cameras. While most of the technical specs remain the same from its predecessor S7/S7 Edge, Samsung promises it delivers better images due to software optimization and processor optimizations built into the S8.

In the video below, you can get to know some of the best tips and tricks to master your S8 camera.

Quickly launch your camera

In the previous Galaxy devices (S5, S6, S7 variants), you were able to double tap the physical home button to quickly launch the camera. However, with S8, as we no longer have the physical home button, you can now press the power button twice to quickly launch the camera.

Once you are in the camera app, you can also either press the power button twice or just swipe up/down to switch between the front and rear cameras.

Master your camera settings

S8 offers a plethora of configuration options for your camera. The camera settings page which you can access by tapping the gear icon on the top right in your camera app is the gateway to configure those options.

There are several options such as:

- Configuring the picture & video size for the front and rear cameras
- Configuring shooting methods. For example, the ability to use the heart rate sensor to take a selfie
- Enabling motion photo which is similar to iPhone's Live Photo which takes a short video clip of the photo
- Selecting your desired storage location: internal storage or SD card.

And much more!

I would highly recommend taking some time to go through these camera settings to get the most out of your camera app.

Master the camera modes

While it's easy to be content with point and shoot, smartphone cameras today provide more sophisticated options that fine-tune the camera's performance for specific occasions. The various camera modes help achieve that.

In the S8 camera app, you can swipe to the right to reveal the available camera modes. There are some really cool camera modes you should try like the selective focus and food modes.

You can also tap the plus (+) icon on the top right in the camera modes screen to install more camera modes from the Galaxy Apps store.

The settings menu, which is represented with a 3 vertical dots, provides more options to edit and add shortcuts of the modes to your home screen. With the edit option, you can re-arrange the modes grid and also uninstall any installed modes from the Galaxy App store. By selecting the add shortcuts to the home screen, you can add one or more shortcut of the modes to your home screen. With these shortcuts, you can just tap the icon and launch the camera app directly into that mode. Very handy!

One of my favorite camera modes is the dual camera mode where you can have a picture in picture display of both of your cameras - front and rear, and vice versa. It's a fun way to take videos and pictures, especially if you have kids and dogs!

Have fun with camera effects

By swiping to the left in the camera app, you can select several camera effects such as:

- Photo effects
- Skin tone effects
- Text stamps
- Face masks
- Weather stamps

You can also add more camera effects by tapping the plus icon (+) just above the effect strip which will take you to the Galaxy Apps store where you can install more camera effects.

Get to know Bixby Vision

Samsung introduced Bixby with S8 and S8+, an intelligent AI built right into your device. While we are yet to see the full capabilites of the bixby, atleast the camera app can utilize its power to help you find things by analyzing any images from your camera.

You can activate the bixby vision by simply tapping the eye icon on the bottom left of the camera app. Once activated, simply tap the desirect object you wish to search for in your camera and bixby will provide you options to either search or shop for that image.

For example: I pointed the bixby vision to a garden solar light and it was able to fetch me results of similar gargen solar lights from the internet. Pretty cool!
