Samsung Galaxy S9+ not working with Gear S2 Watch

Hey All,
I just got my new phone today, and when i try and connect the watch it gets to about 19% and fails. "Download Failed. Try Again."

Anyone else experiencing this issue? Using the gear app that came pre-installed on my phone. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall, but they were the same version.
 
I have the S9 and the Gear 2 watch. I didn't have any trouble. I did do a complete reset on the watch though before pairing with my new phone. Somewhere, and I don't remember where, it said to do that. Then the watch was reconnected as a new device. I used the Samsung Switch app to transfer everything to my new phone so the Gear app was there, didn't have to reinstall it.
 
hi I ahve exatcly the same issue with Note8, I replaced my note5 with Note8, have done several hard-reset on Gear S2 but no luck, error says NOTICE, DOWNLOAD FAILED. TRY AGAIN.
 
I just had this same issue but with my Gear S3 Frontier. I solved it by disabling both the Bluetooth and Wireless on my S9+. After I did that the download passed 19% and eventually the phone turned on Bluetooth again to pair with the watch.
 
One thing I've noticed with the Gear S2 is I get a clean install without issues if I do a hard reset on the Gear and then reset everything manually rather than do a restore from a previous backup. There just seems to be glitches when I use restore after doing a hard reset.
 
Yes, that is what I did. Did a factory reset on the watch and then tweaked my watch settings.
