Samsung Galaxy Spica - Battery Disconnected

Hi,
I bought a new battery for my Galaxy Spica but when I put it in and tried to charge I get the onscreen message "Battery Disconnected" Is there anything I can do or have I just been sent a defective battery?

Edit: Okay, it seems to switch on with the new battery and charge this way, so maybe it's not a big deal.
