So my wife has just upgrade her Galaxy S7 to a Huawei P20. She has been using the Samsung Health app for a while now, and loves it. However, since upgrading to the P20, she's having problems with her steps not being recognised in the Samsung Health app.

I've Googled the problem, and it appears to be an issue with the P20 (and other Huawei phones), in that while the app is on screen it'll record steps, but when it's in the background it won't record steps.

Since having the Samsung Health app is a 100% necessity for my wife, she's now thinking of ditching the P20 and going for a Pixel 2. (Personally, I think ditching a phone on the basis of an app is a bit extreme, but hey ho!)

Can anyone provide any guidance on whether compatibility of the Samsung Health app would be better with the Pixel 2? Alternatively, can anyone suggest a different app which allows you to record both exercise (i.e. steps etc.) and food/calorie intake? She hates MyFitnessPal, so no point in even going down that route I'm afraid.

I totally agree with your wife. Samsung Health is a great app and it's really disappointing not to have it working on the P20. Did you get anywhere with this? I too am considering switching to Pixel.

Well, she switched to using the Fitbit app on the P20, but didn't really like the P20, so has now switched to a Pixel 2, and is continuing to use the Fitbit app...so far she likes it, though its database is nowhere near as good as the MyFitnessPal database I use, in terms of bar-code scanning etc.
