Samsung Health - Calorie Counter Doesn't Use Heart Rate

How do you feel about Samsung calculating calories this way without informing S2/S3/S Health User?

I have had a Samsung Gear S2 Watch for quite some time (though this information is also true for the Gear S3 Watch). I noticed that the calorie count for elliptical and yoga was consistent regardless of how hard (or little) I worked out. I first called the Samsung gear department and they had me reset the watch. After that didn't work, I called back and was routed to the Samsung Health App group. The person I talked to told me that Elliptical, Yoga and Running calories is an estimate based on time and the workout selected, nothing else. So I could watch TV or kill myself working out, the calorie count for those exercises would be exactly the same.

The Samsung Health rep couldn't speak to the other exercises or give me an exercise that the calorie count was based on something besides time, so my feeling is that there are others, if not all, that based on time and nothing else. It is nice having my heart rate information, but knowing calories is just an estimate based on the exercise you select and time would have been nice to know before I bought the watch. Your thoughts?

Re: Samsung Health Calorie Counter Is Only a Rough Estimate

I think anything that counts calories is an estimate.

All devices that count calories is just an estimate.

And not all estimates are accurate. OP is pointing out how This estimate is ignoring valuable data, and is more inaccurate as a consequence. Thanks for adding nothing to the conversation.
