I'm sure this is old news to you all but I purchased a Samsung Infuse 4G off of craigslist and verified that the IMEI was good and clear on Saturday night. The sim slot was not reading sim cards so I took it to the AT&T service center and they would not replace it due to the phone being "Blacklisted." They said it was either reported lost or stolen.
My question is...
Is there anyway around this to use it on AT&T with rooting or maybe editing IMEI's?
Or, can it be unlocked for use on other networks or overseas?
In the meantime, I'm using it on WiFi to make VoIP calls using GrooveIP with my google voice and it works great.
Just wondering where we stand with the IMEI thing because I come across a lot of phones from bartenders and club owners I know in town that are never claimed; mainly due to the fact that people are probably so intoxicated, they don't even remember where they left their phone. After two weeks, most of the club owners or heads of security call me and sell the phones but as of now, I'm feeling like this is the beginning of the end.
One of the great things about AT&T and T-Mobile was that we never had to worry about them blocking the IMEI like Verizon and Sprint do with ESN's.
Please reply. I need help and advice. Thank you.
P.S. I'm new here but this forum looks great. About to try and root my Infuse using my Mac so we will see how that goes and how long it takes
