Hi I have had several old Samsung phones working 24/7 using Alfred Camera app as a Security Camera, and as long as you use a socket timer so it's not charging all the time, the battery does not overheat, and it's fine. But this latest J6 keeps turning itself off. It seems not to be able to last more than 2 or 3 days before it turns off and I look at my viewer and keep getting told "Camera offline".

I went into all the settings and stopped all the permissions I could, but it still keeps doing it.

I would love to get rid of ALL apps too, except Alfred Camera.

But keeping the phone switched on is my priority.

Can anyone help please?

Thank you

Welcome to Android Central forums. The J6 was released in 18' more than 6 years ago and you're trying to run it 24/7. First we can assume the settings are fine since it lasts for multiple days before going offline. I doubt it would stay on any days if the settings were not good. This leaves the hardware. A 6 year old battery that you don't know the history of, would be my first guess as to why this isn't working for you. You could try one of those battery health apps to see if it gives you any insight into why this is happening but a few questions in the meantime.

You say it's turning itself off, we assume you mean it is powering down, when you attempt to restart it what is the battery level when you restart it? It may be fully charged due to being connected to a charger but if not what percentage are you seeing?

Have you looked at the Device Care settings to see what the battery arc looks like before it shuts down? A screenshot of this might be helpful at least in diagnosing. To find this go to Settings>Device Care>Battery>touch the graph>use the dates above the graph on this page to navigate to a time when this happened and take a screenshot. Do not crop the screenshot so that we can see the whole range including the charging cycle.

My guess without your answers or physical access to the device is that you need a new battery. The settings are OK based on the fact that it lasts so long before this happens. You could replace the battery, I'm seeing them for under $20 USD and since they aren't everyday drivers it's probably something you can do yourself.

As for getting all other apps off of the phone to streamline it, that kind of thing would require rooting the phone. We can ask @mustang7757 about ADB, some apps can be removed with that, but I do not believe all apps can. That's where root comes in. The best place for root advice and how-tos is XDA Developers site. They talk about root, ROMs and modifying Android.

Hi, the batterry never goes below 60%, as it is plugged into a timer, that is plugged into the mains. I will try getting a new battery, thanks for your help.
