Samsung Micro SD - Hardware ID missing

My son got his fathers SG S3 but first it was wiped clean, I'm assuming with the SD card mounted in it, now when it's in the phone it's not showing up as even having a SD card, so I inserted it in my computer, it will not do ANYTHING except give me a message that says "HARDWARE ID MISSING
Windows cannot identify the device plugged into the Realtek USB 2.0 card reader.
For assistance contact the hardware manufacturer."
It is a 8GB Samsung micro SD HC.
Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this so I don't have to deal with calling Samsung. Thank you!

Re: Samsung Micro SD - Hardware ID missing

Welcome to Android Central! If the computer can't recognize it, the card most likely became corrupt, and can't be salvaged. Unless there's really important data you're hoping to salvage from the card, just throw it away and get a new one. 8 GB cards cost around $5 or less these days.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I did contact Samsung today and they are going to send me a replacement.
