Samsung might remove headphone jack from future phones?

Considering the howls of protest with the new iThing not having a hole to plug yer ear phones into, I'm not convinced it would be a good marketing strategy...

When a cost-effective and convenient alternative has saturated the market, I'll be ok with losing the .35mm jack. Today I don't see anything like that - and I want to be able to plug in my phone and listen to music at the same time and without an unwieldy dongle. Keeping the .35mm jack makes more sense than any alternative I've seen presented yet.

I sure do like that any headphones I buy are universal to all my devices, don't need charging, and don't suffer from any interference...

I was reading the paper today and it stated that even though Samsung is going through this recall with the note 7 they're looking towards the future, and are considering following In apple's footsteps in removing the headphone jack any thoughts?

If Samsung remove the headphone jack in the S8, they will clearly look like they are following Apple. This is not a good image as Sammy already has a reputation for following and copying Apple. I can see other OEM's following this move. This is an opportunity for Sammy to distinguish itself from other phone makers.

It's not just Apple that did this.....

Yes, but it's only widely known that Apple did it. Ask the average person who else removed the headphone jack from a phone and they wouldn't have a clue. If Sammy does it next, it will be widely believed they followed Apple.

I had to think for a few minutes why they wouldn't get rid of the speaker... Then my phone rang, and sure enough, that's the reason the built in speaker will never go away. We still need to have notification sounds (and the ability to hear the other person during a call).

At least until we have chips in our heads... But then we won't need the phone anymore right?

Doesn't you're smart watch notify you? And if you have a blue tooth ear piece you don't need a phone speaker. My phone is almost always on silent, although I don't use my ear piece because I don't receive many calls. Mostly from my dad who's old school. Although lately more spam calls, so I just hang up on them on my watch. Or ignore them.

Checking tmobile Twitter on any Note 7 news, I saw iPhones back ordered until November. Either they make them slow or they're popular. So people don't care.

I think as the quality of Bluetooth headphones gets better along with the price of them coming down makes them more attainable, it's only a matter of time until they all do this. But I also think Apple is jumping the gun on doing this now. I just don't think the masses are ready to shell out a bunch of money for headphones that are still pricey (at least for quality ones). I think it will be a couple of years before the other makers (including Samsung) make this move. However, if Apple proves everyone wrong and the lack of a headphone jack works out for them then it's a good bet other manufacturers will rush to catch up.
They are doing this to sell their beats headphones. Duh lol

With so many people with smart phones and the world going more wireless, it's not far fetched to think that eventually the wired headphone will eventually go the way of the dodo. Granted the headphone jack has been a standard on phones, however the cost of wireless headphones has decreased significantly. Eventually companies are going to be all wireless headphones, best to start with the high end phones.

Wireless are convenient but wired are capable of better sound with comparable headphones

No, no, no, no no, please Samsung, don't follow THIS trend, I would not to be able to listen to music with a headphone jack while charging my phone, and have an official headphone jack...

I'm hoping they don't "follow Apple." Samsung is good enough to set its own trends... And not follow anyone else's.

It will be removed sooner or later. If they add a dongle that allows you to add Bluetooth connectivity to your"old style" headphones with a wire than I can do this. I guess i could just buy it from Amazon also but it would be nice if it was provided.
