The newer samsungs do not take sd cards.

most of the new phones seem about 256GB

What happens of you run out of space?

Most mainstream phones don't have SD slots any more -- that's been a longstanding trend. It's ideal to make use of the cloud (of your choice -- Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.) for things like music, photos, documents, etc. Although it may be convenient to have data like that saved locally, it's never a good idea to have important data saved only to your phone (and nowhere else), because you can never predict if/when something bad might happen to your phone or its storage.

If you absolutely want physical storage, then you can carry around a flash drive or external hard drive.

I have no Google Drive, OneDrive that I use. I haven't moved from my phone with sd card, yet. I have it on my phone and backed up on laptop. I don't need a Google Drive, OneDrive.

You have to pay for Google Drive, OneDrive to the degree to store a lot of things.
I have Google Drive, OneDrive just enough that it's free and I really don't store anything there.

Music, I had my own mp3 music.

I have to see what is what if I move to a new phone. I just have zero idea what to do about it. lol

Thanks for the tips.

If full, though, What do you do?

Remember that everyone gets 15 GB of Google Drive space free, which you never have to pay for.

In the modern era, I've never had to worry about my daily driver getting full -- even with 128 GB of internal storage on my Pixel phones. (It still surprises me a bit when people say 128 GB is "way too small." 😄) At most, I get to about 50% capacity. So I'm not a good person to ask about this.

How much storage are you using? If you get a good deal plenty of phones at 512 GB especially when they do early promotions. There are also some really good flash drives.

I am buying pre-owned or open box or something. I love the love of new when I can't get one with sc card lol

A flash drive? For a phone? I don't need one for a phone.

Not just convenient but an absolute necessity when travelling round areas with a patchy data connection as I often do when working.

I could just about get away with 256GB of local storage but ideally would be much more comfortable with 512GB based on the traditional 50% free rule.

So, no one knows what you do if it gets full?
Mostly, I fear it would happen quick.

I got a big SD card, just to put my own music on. (And to take pictures, if I needed space.)

I am not buying space and pay monthly for google.

I guess when they change everything.. not much you can do.

If 512 was not so much money, I would be OK with all of this lol

256 is closed to my SD card

Just a trap they have you in that I don't agree with

It sucks but is what it is. Only way that will change is if the EU mandated them which they won't.

How can you possibly have 256GB of music? Did you pirate the entire music industry?

You would start getting warnings as you approach full. The system always needs a certain amount of buffer space, which varies depending on the total storage of a phone. I don't know the exact buffer needed on a 256 GB phone, but I'm guessing in the range of 5-10 GB. Once you reach the limit of what the system will allow you to use, you simply won't be able to save more data nor install any more apps unless you start deleting files or uninstalling apps to make room.
