samsung note 5 touch screen glitches

Screen sometimes won't register the letters that I am typing. It annoys me because it takes a while for me to finish a message. It happens intermittently usually when phone is being used for a longer time. Does anyone experience the same issue as mine?

The first thing that enters people's mind is whether or not you have a case on the phone that has magnets. If so, remove the case and use the phone without the case for a few days to see if things improve. Also, does this happen in landscape mode? Are only a few letters not registering, or is it the entire keyboard? Does it happen when using the S-pen?

Hi thanks for the response. I am using a UAG case and I think it doesn't have any magnet. My screen rotation is always turned off so I haven't experienced the problem when it is on landscape mode. S-pen works perfectly fine. The problem usually occurs when the phone is being used for a longer time. I am using a tempered glass screen protector. Do you think it has something to do with the problem?

Mod Note, I will move this to the n5 forum for more visibility

So, just to make sure I'm understanding this correctly... the problem you're seeing doesn't occur if you use your S-pen to type? There are two digitizers on the Note series... one for touch, and the other for the S-pen. If you can use your S-pen to type and not your fingers, then your digitizer (touch) may be going bad. It really sounds like a hardware problem considering it only happens after the phone has been used for a while. Sounds heat related.

The reason I asked about landscape was to find out if the bottom area of your screen was failing. Say, for instance, one of the intermittent letters was the letter "a".... if you put your phone in landscape, the letter "a" would be way to the left of the screen (away from the bottom while in portrait). Then again, I usually ask this when I suspect the user might have a case on the phone where a magnetic closure is involved... which is normally near the bottom of the screen in portrait mode. Might be irrelevant testing since you say your case has no magnets.

As for screen protectors... On my Note 10.1 2014, I had to remove my tempered glass screen protector because it was causing a lot of intermittent touch control. Then again, tablet screen protectors are rather thick. On my Note 4, I use an iCarez tempered glass protector with no issues. It's only .15mm thick. I wouldn't think your screen protector is causing the problem if, like you say, it's fine until the phone warms up. Of course, perhaps it's normal for the screen to become less sensitive if it's warmer, and in your case having the screen protector on makes matters worse. How thick and what brand protector do you have on? Manufacture/model number? I would really hate for you to take off the protector to test only to still have it fail without it. Then again, it would be cheaper than a new touch digitizer.

I already removed the screen protector and I'd like to believe that it has solved the problem. Screen is very responsive now. I only used a local brand screen protector. I even forgot what brand it was. It was too thick. Do you know a thin tempered glass for note 5? Thanks

Well, I'm glad removing the protector seems to have solved it. It would be a pity if it was the touch digitizer.

I don't know of a screen protector to recommend. I don't believe iCarez makes a .15mm for the Note 5... at least I couldn't find one on Amazon. HERE'S an article by AC about screen protectors for the Note 5. I know that the Note 5 screen curve is more pronounced than the Note 4 and halo is a real issue. Too bad iCarez doesn't make the .15mm for the Note 5 as there is no halo on my Note 4. I hope you can find something that'll work. Try to find the thinnest one you can and read the reviews before you purchase.

Well thank you for the time nahoku. I hope I won't be experiencing any issues anymore because it's very early to buy a new phone.

God bless!

If you have a screen protector. Shouldn't you go in the setting on the phone and turn the touch sensitivity up on the phone ?

You're welcome, and same to you! I hope you can find a suitable screen protector. Good luck!

When the Note 5 first came out, I remember reading that they removed the ability to increase touch sensitivity. Did they reinstate the option via OS/updates? On the Note 4, the setting is found under Display options.
