Android Central Question

My Samsung Note 9, bought last November has stopped 'fast charging' using the fast charger that came with it. This happened about 3 months ago. I cannot use the charger which came with it. Whenever I plug it in, the ‘fast charging’ notification shows up, then after 1 second, the phone does not charge at all using the Samsung Charger.
I am now just using my computer, powerbank, or sometimes even a non-fast charging charger to charge my Note 9…my concern is that my Note 9 takes about 6-8 hours to charge now. Yes, I know it’s not fast-charging, but my previous phones, and even my iPhone didn’t take more than 2.5 hours to charge on a non-fast charger!
I have checked my settings to confirm fast-charger IS enabled. I can confirm I can fast charge using the chargers at work. I have rebooted my phone a few times and reset the settings a few times.
Has anyone has an this issue where it takes 6-8 hours on a non-fast charger? Yes, I might ‘solve’ this by buying a new fast charger as the one I have might be defective. But this still won’t solve the fact that it takes 6-8 hours to charge on a non-fast charger – I won’t always have a fast charger with me – say when I’m travelling or in a car. Is it really normal for the Note 9 to take 6-8 hours to fully charge?
Appreciate some of your feedback please. I will have to factory reset as a last resort – but from reading online, I don’t think this will ‘fix’ it.

Hmm, interesting. Now, I'm curious. How long should it take to charge a nearly dead Samsung phone to 100% on fast charge (via cable). I never allow my phone to go that low so I don't know.

Ok. Another update. Went back to the shop where I got it from. Manager has had a look and found that my USB-c port is full of dirt, cotton and other materials. He suggested that I'll grab a thin object like a toothpick to remove the particles blocking it. I went home, grabbed a thin object and gently removed a lot of the particles. I can now see the silver plate at the bottom, whereas before I couldn't. I tried charging it...but it still charges super slow! :(

I could see that there are still a LITTLE bit of dust particles left, but surely a little dust particle blocking the silver plate at the bottom wouldn't affect charging? Surely Samsung expects that dust WILL end up there and a little dust wouldn't completely through charging out of whack?

Anyway, I'll try attempt number 2 and see if I can fully remove everything 'blocking' the port. Hopefully, that will fix it.

Update: Also found out that my phone cannot be recognized by my PC as I was trying to back up my files. Sounds like a charging port issue. Have sent it out back to Samsung for warranty repair. Hope it goes well and they don't factory reset my phone :(

Hope all goes well.

Alright. Samsung advised that the motherboard is faulty and it needs to be replaced. It will also mean a factory reset is required. Before I get back to Samsung, am I able to request them a new unit? I mean I'm okay with repairing a charging port, but a motherboard? C'mon. This failed in just 4-5 months since I purchased it and sadly I did not pick it up soon enough.

No they have the right to fix or give refurbished but that's totally up to them , I think motherboard comes with the USBC port together now.

Will a replaced motherboard affect performance and phone lifespan etc? Or should I sell it when I get it back and just get a new phone?

After a few days, I finally got my Samsung Note 9 yesterday. I can confirm the battery is now charging quickly. It's at 27% now and it says it will take 1 hour and 45 minutes to charge.

Sad news is...Samsung has slightly damaged my phone chassis. It's not huge obvious dents, but I definitely notice the dings and marks. My phone color is black and for some of the dings and body scratches, I could see the 'silver' underneath the black color. Just a bit upset on the fact that I'm taking care of my phone and they send it back to me with those marks.

What can I do now? Do I email the shop where I got it from or contact Samsung directly?

That's a good question, and always worried about when having repairs done, try the shop first but you should of inspected the phone right there and said something.

I've emailed Samsung as recommended by the manager, and wait for their reply.

Well, thanks everyone for helping. We have at least addressed the mystery of the Note 9 charging slowly. It's because the Motherboard had an issue and needed replacing.

Special thanks to @mustang7757 for your sound advise and expert wisdom ;)
