I still (being the always hopeful person i am) hope that the note 5 edge will happen.
Think about it. The note edge came out a while after the note 4. Why wouldnt they do that again with the note 5 edge.
I even think its just me being hopeful, but its plausible. Right?!
I mean the note edge did way better than they thought abd i think has built qyite the following. So why keep the s6 edgethat doesnt do the same things as the note edge but not the bote edge.

Sincerely

A Dreamer.

I'll give you a 1+ for that one! :) The only reason that will not happen is this:
The Galaxy S 6 Edge +

No amount of hope, praying, child sacrifice, incense burning or rain dance is going to make something impossible happen.

Yes, the Note Edge was released after Note 4, but it was announced the same time.

What was announced with the Note 5? S6 Edge +. That was evident to us for a few months before the fact.

Next, the event that Samsung has been using to release the Note phones started today in Berlin and it's called IFA and there is no Note Edge II, not that anyone thought there would be.

So, "hopefully" this puts an end to others posting "hopeful" posts about impossible products. :)

I think we all have a *little* hope that the note edge 2 might show up, but realistically (unfortunately) the chances are now <1%, if that. But you never know with Samsung... Lol

Well in keeping with the tradition, if Samsung did do a Note 5 Edge, then that would mean a sealed battery. My original battery after 9 months of use is starting to go bad. I'll be getting a new battery in November. What happens when that sealed battery starts going bad in that N5 Edge after 9 moths of use? Replace the phone?

Samsung has moved on to double curved screens for the Edge with sealed bodies. Although the Note Edge is gone and will not return but Samsung also offers a version of Edge functionality on the S6Edge+, by allowing a few (I think 5) apps to pop when slide the screen from the right to left.

Although phones in general get less and less interesting (that's all phones) I hope that Samsung continues to push the envelope. I am not sure for any current Note user the arrival of Note 5 is anything special. And as Note users if a phone doesn't have a pen, we aren't interested, so what appeals to us is very limited and for most of us, is another Note.

I even have a Note tablet and I use the S-pen quite often on my tablet.

I look at the phones that people use on the street, and it's getting to a point that I can't tell most of them apart any more. Anyone else? It seems they are all on phablets. The S6 for example it looks so much like the iPhone that unless you notice the round home button, vs elongated home button it's hard to tell at a glance what it is.

We have hit a saturation point with phone and there doesn't seem to be any new ideas. All phone makers try to do now, is to offer a different back cover? Like that matters to 95% of users who use a case.

So, what do you guys think will be the next phone revolution? There wasn't anything interesting at IFA this year.

I'm hoping for more phones like the G Flex/ Galaxy Round (as little market it had) or just completely different form factor. I'm getting weary of the same old specs boost. I want a huge hardware redesign. Maybe I just want a Project Ara 3.0 phone or something lol. Moto Maker should become the standard for all phones, but allow us to choose processor, RAM, storage, display size/quality, etc. independently, that'd be a smartphone revolution

I agree with you Shiva. You have always been a voice of reason and very knowledgeable when it comes to todays tech. I actually look forward to your very well thought out and insightful posts. Here is what I think.

The days of replaceable batteries are numbered. I honestly think that most manufacturers will go the sealed battery route because it's simply cheaper to build it directly into the phone AND you can incorporate the cost of the battery into the phone. AND charge a hefty fee to have the battery replaced.

I think the Note Edge was a gamble. And while it sold extremely well, I think the cost of creating the Edge screen and programming the functions into it were probably more than Samsung hoped for, thus a limited concept. I had already planned to keep this phone for two years. I mean, I have had a UAG case on it since week 2. Not a single scratch and the phone still performs superbly. Plus people always stop me to ask what phone I'm using lol. If they come out with a Note 6 Edge next year with a removable battery, I MAY look at it. The Note 5 is actually a step backward to the point that it's hilarious. But it looks like I will be keeping this phone for a very LONG time....

I might go for a Note Edge with a sealed a battery if it functions as well as the current Note Edge.

What's sad is that sealed phones are pretty much the way things are going. I don't mind it too much, however, I HATE the fact that it seems, more often than not, that the batteries they put into phones is just way to damn small. I would not be opposed to a thicker/heavier phone if it meant it had a good battery.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is a SHINING example of this. Sealed phone, 3400mha battery that would run me (with normal use) a day and a half without recharge most days. For me, this set the standard high on sealed phones. I really wish I could find out why they are also going away from SD Cards for expanded storage? I think that sucks pretty bad and should not be done. :(

I love the option of a removable battery but if they found a way to get enough juice for 2 full days use for a "power user" then I'd be happy even if the phone was heavier.

My issue is, sometimes if your phone is acting wacky, in order to diagnose it might require pulling the battery. How do you kill the power source to a device with a built in power source?

From what I have read, you hold volume down and the power button simultaneously until the phone tells you it's rebooting. That's their way around the freezing if you need to "pull the battery". I still would like to remove the darn battery if need be. That's why I got the Note Edge in the first place. And I couldn't be happier.

It's funny you said that, after my post, I had to pull the battery cause it was acting weird. A quick fix. So I am back to just wanting a removable battery. End of story!!!

A copy from my post on this same thread from Page1.

As phone storage getting better, and cloud, SD cards will not be missed as much.

Basically what's happening is this: with sealed phones you can never truly turn them off. So they can be tracked off or on. Also they want all your stuff on cloud, not on SD cards, for easier surveillance.

Apple for example has all the files, text messages, pics, contact phone numbers and emails of iPhone users on iCloud.
