Samsung "Note" Name Might Come Back

Interesting. Samsung keeps us guessing.

The Note 20 Ultra was my first Note & I just had to keep it. It received the August 2024 security patch earlier in the week.

I never understood the reasoning for changing the name. (It's like renaming the Big Mac to Double Cheeseburger Extra. 🙃)

Don't mess with successful branding. Bring it back!
😄

I like the idea of bringing the Note back. I think it's A great thing. But what I didn't like was this: around when they retired the Note there got to be a point where there was no distinction between the Note and the Galaxy S series. I think the S series and the Note should have different features that separate the other. From what I recall, it got to the point where the only distinction was the SPen.

If I could call the shots (and I'm sure I will irritate some people with this take): The S would be at the biggest 5" in screen size, and the Note starts at 5.75". The Note gets the pen, and maybe some software differences, like a multi-screen. Another idea is the Fold should have been a Note relaunch.

I've never stopped calling it a Note.

After seeing me jot down a quick note, a colleague asked was it "the new Motorola with a pen." Of course I said Motorola could never, and I showed some of the BT capabilities and how I use the pen in every day life. He said he is gonna take a look the Note, and I said it's S Ultra now. Next week, I'll have to spread this rumor and explain so he isn't completely confused!!

I hope they do bring it back, I miss saying I have the galaxy note whatever now

Agree with both of you

Seems most of you are attached to the Note name. I entered the Samsung party late. I came from HTC, which by the way I've heard may be making a comeback, but my first Sammy was the S10 and has been the S series ever since. I'm only here now because it's an S series otherwise I wouldn't have an S-Pen or squared corners and would still be living the S life.

It's funny how things go. I never saw the point of the S-Pen and couldn't imagine ever owning one. Now I've had 3 and can't imagine ever having a folding device. Maybe in a few years they'll combine something else and push me into one of those next.

HTC is coming back but it won't be like how the M8 was

I missed the M8. I got into smartphones with the Incredible, phone of the year 2011 by the way, and was doing Verizon's new every 2 so when the M8 released it was an odd year for me. I had the Rezound that year but I remember the hype of the M8. First phone I can remember with dual cameras on the back. It was the bulk of talk in every review.
But look at me now ma' 5 sensors on the back. Hahaha.

You sound like me in terms of starting with the S10, not thinking I'd ever use the S Pen, then getting the S22 Ultra and now the S24 Ultra. Now I can't see being without the S Pen. I don't care what they call the phone as long as it has an S Pen with a slot to hold it.

I never had HTC, though. My previous devices were Moto, Nexus and LG.

Was it the Nexus with the track ball? Knowing I was losing my physical keyboard on my feature phone I remember really wanting the Nexus One with that track ball. I was mad that I couldn't go to a phone store and see one. I remember stopping in just to see the Razr and the LG Chocolate. I want to say that I went in to see the Incredible but I'm also sure that I preordered that.

No, I only had a trackball on an old Blackberry 9000.

For me it's the branding, the imagery.

If I hear MS Surface Pro, I get a mental image of it & immediately identify it being a portable two in one device, laptop & tablet, with removable keyboard & support for a Surface Pen.

The Note line had identifiable features. The shape, size, embedded S Pen which included capabilities that wouldn't be available on the S line. It was unique. When I heard the name, the image appeared in my mind.

To me, rebranding it into the S Ultra gave it a bit of an identity crisis. Some people wanted the Ultra specs without the Note's features. Do I enjoy my s24U, definitely. Does it perform like a Note, of course. It just doesn't feel as special. No mental image, no sparkle...

I know, silly. But, it's just how I feel.
😄

I get it!! I want more than "an S with a Pen". Back in the day, Notes came with all sorts of cool tricks. On maybe the N3 u could take a pick, then flip it over and write on the back, like names or places. #epic

I appreciate what we have now, though. I'm glad they didn't totally shut us down and take away our SPen.
