Does anyone remember articles couple month about related to Samsung making the fourth nexus? Well I remember quite few articles and wondering if all just rumor but the buzz on the next nexus phone is really dead. What happen to the big rumor IMO with HTC,Motorola, Samsung and LG all coming out with Nexus this year? Has all these rumors just gone up in smoke or is everybody just waiting for Google I/0?

I think we're all waiting on I/O, particularly to see if there's a Nexus tablet (which seems likely at this point). That will show us the true or new direction of the "Nexus Program" IMHO.

How so? One thing I don't like about the nexus program is how unclear what terms are of the program or limitations of the program.

By expanding it past just a single phone somewhat implies that we're not going to be dealing with a 1 manufacturer exclusive deal anymore. Other manufacturers will get a chance where before they would not, and I think that's a good thing.

Further, they might take advantage of a "multiple" device program by implementing different ideas. Remember, part of the Nexus program is for Google to express what they "want" in future Android implementations. Sometimes this works (particularly holo/ICS, although that's arguably attributed to the Nexus program), sometimes it doesn't (like softkeys--they haven't taken off like I thought they would). Adding more devices and more manufacturers allows for different testbeds of different things.

As far as limitations/etc., I just think it'll become clearer where it's going as they implement this "new" program. No real proof of that, obviously, just a hunch.

I speculated the same things. Those after Google I/0, we will have to wait and see what the future holds for the nexus program. I think end product of the nexus program is great idea I just don't like clout before the product and on to the next.

I for one am really hoping we'll see multiple Nexus phones, for no reason other than more choices. Hopefully we'll see multiple form factors, as I would be really bummed if they decided on only one Nexus device and it turned out to be a gargantuan 4.8" display device like the One X, and they said "well hope you like big phones because, if not, then you'll already not want this Nexus". It would be awesome if we could see a 4" Nexus, 4.3" Nexus (my choice), 4.5" Nexus, and a 4.7"-4.8" Nexus, all with of course top specs in every other department like S4 processors (with Adreno 320) or A15 processors (like upcoming dual core Exynos with the new Mali), plenty of storage, RAM, and the like.

Seriously, do that, and they'll hold me out from ever considering Windows Phone 8.

Five Nexus devices for people to argue about what really is and isn't a Nexus.

I for one would love a 4.8 in. Nexus. Hopefully the rumored multiple devices are true.

Yes the screen is bigger... but the physical phone is not much bigger since its bigger screen + smaller bezel. You could have a 4.8" screen in what uses to be a 4.3" sized phone.

Samsung Galaxy S3: 4.8" display, 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm
HTC Sensation: 4.3" display, 126.1 x 65.4 x 11.3 mm

Aside from thinness, no, you can't have a 4.8" display device that is overall as small as a 4.3" device. Not yet. The One X, with a 4.7" display, is also much larger than 4.3" display devices. So, no, we still have to wait for bezels to continue to become smaller for large 4.8" display devices to have overall dimensions similar to those of recent 4.3" display devices.

This is one of the main reasons I'm holding out with my Sensation. I love the beautiful new displays we're seeing, but I simply can't have a device as big as a One X or GS3. I personally would love to see that gorgeous full HD LG 5" display in a device with truly minimal bezel that is about as small as my Sensation.

Google has a lot in common with MS and Apple this year, they have kept things very secret. In fact out of the 3 Apple was the most predictable. I for one didn't see the "Surface "coming. A tablet yes but what they have done is innovative.

Its funny MS comes out with a tablet...it stinks. Apple comes out with a tablet its good! MS comes out with another tablet, that looks like it might be good... and we here folks say, hey MS is copying Apple!

I just hope Google does something good. Make a good product and folks will like it. Make crap and the reputation will stick for years.

I'll vote for the Samsung Nexus 4...does Motorola even make GSM phones anymore?;)

If these hardware products survived on their OS software, we'd still be getting Palm devices. Apple's app ecosystem is large and for the most part, their apps look great. If Android tablet app developers don't step it up, I predict the Surface will easily leapfrog Android to number 2 in the tablet space.

How will the Surface tablet become number 2? What does the surface have for specs and features? I only cause I don't really know.

I think even if the Surface is a commercial success, it would still take some time for Microsoft to steal market share from Android. They would not only have to match or surpass the number of apps in the Play Store, but they would also have to create some sort of ecosystem between Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8...

With the Surface, it appears Microsoft is trying to get the best of both worlds - an entertainment and media device that will also be as a productive as a laptop.

Current tablets are seen as complimentary.

It's not just about market share. If app developers can make money on Surface easier than they can on Android, people will go to Surface.

Microsoft has the money to make it happen.

Honestly, at this point it looks like Google is just trying to gain as much market share for Android as possible. It sounds cynical, but there's no hope that they will make something as design innovative as Apple. Realistically, Google will probably focus on the budget tablet expansionism they are now, and let Samsung make thr next gen Nexus. Because with Samsung, you know it might not be great, but it will consistently be good enough *rolls eyes*

I agree with you that "current tablets are seen as complimentary" however I don't agree the surface will surpass android with line of product or the next. The reason is in my humble opinion is what makes current tablets great is they compliment your smartphone and/or pc. Like for example reading comics most would say the tablet would the best choice over a phone or computer. Then you have the surface is supposed to be hybrid which suppose to better for public but the imo the public does not want a hybrid. The problem I see with the surface for most people is people would not want a ($500-$1000) product that can only do half the job their ($500-$1000) pc can do plus more. I would much rather have my reasonable ($100-$300) tablet that compliments my pc and smartphone than ($500-$1000)hybrid tablet that reminds me I still need my pc.

Yeah I agree with Ry's assessment too, the current gen of tablets are seen as complimentary to desktop PCs. The Surface appears to be trying to change that.

Totally OT btw, but eh, who cares :D
