Samsung Pay not working everywhere??

I thought, and this is because I've heard almost every reviewer say it, that Samsung Pay works anywhere as long as it can take a creditcard swipe. I mean, it emulates a card swipe so I thought it would work on any machine that accepts the magnetic strip.

How come it doesn't work everywhere? I was going to buy a Gear S3 and this is a big dealbreaker :(

I read on Samsung's website the supported countries for Samsung Pay.

Do you know if it does? You're asking a question without shedding any light on the matter. I obviously heard somewhere that it doesn't work, otherwise I wouldn't ask :)

Just want to know if i misunderstood their website. Maybe the countries listed are for the LTE versions or something.

Where do you live. Im in the U. S. And its worked probably 97%of the time. Sometimes its subjective-the cashier depending on thebregiatwr may need to select a certain option/button and on some terminals you need to wait for the reader to be at a point where itbacan take the transaction-spmetimes when attempting the transaction before the reader is ready will case a fail. Some terminals specifically require you to run as a debit, some others as a credit, and yet some others can be either way.

I'm from Denmark.
I'm thinking the way it works might be like this: When you try to add a credit card, the app has to confirm the country of residence through which bank the card belongs to, and either accept or reject.
I thought it just emulated a credit card and so it would work on any card reader that accepts magnetic strips, anywhere in the world.
Such a bummer :( I still want the watch, though, hoping it will work in Denmark sooner rather than later.

In my case here in the US, using Samsung Pay on my Note 8 requires that I "verify" each card as I set it up. Some by logging in (big banks), others by calling the bank (local banks).

I've only had my note 8 for a couple of weeks, my gear s3 arrives today. I've only tried using it 3 or 4 times, worked fine at one place, errored out at others. I suspect it may be related to what amyf27 said, either the terminal isn't ready when I try it or.. maybe I just haven't figured it all out yet.

I see. So it takes more than a credit card emulation. Correlation between the app, banks and terminals, I guess.

Well, I will buy the watch if it drops a bit in price on Black Friday here in Denmark. Because otherwise... I'll probably still end up buying it :-X

Do you have any stores ovee there that offer discounted versions that are say a customer return / "open box"? I got my Gear S3 Frontier at Best Buy as an Open Box special. It was only $260

Good question. I have no idea. How can you be sure it's 100% okay, though?

Depends on the store I suppose. Our Best Buy store here is great. Theyre very well trained and answer any questions. Open Box is just Open box return, usually wrong size or someone wanted Classic not Frontier, etc. Here theyre vetybgood about going over everything. Mine looks like new and performs like new, as it should. I have a custom band on it now too.
