Samsung Pay on Verizon

I use the KeyRing app too. Kalnel, I tried the NFC at Walgreens this morning and it went thru, but not via the NFC thru the MST. I didn't have the phone near the MST I had it over the tap and pay thingy. Maybe I did it wrong though. LOL

That's interesting -- same thing that happened to me at Whole Foods. I wonder if the MST is set as the "default" method.

Now that the folks on Verizon had a couple of days with this new thing...

1) How's the battery life now? I was shocked how quickly my battery went down! Not that the battery prior to the latest VZ update and the new app was great, but it was just nose diving. I turned off "Simple Pay" option which lets you swipe upward from any screen to see if it makes any difference....

2) How do I know if the pay is via NFC or MST? I suppose I don't need to know, but I'm curious.

Haven't noticed any difference in my battery life.

No way to tell how the transaction goes through, other than seeing where you're holding the device relative to the scanner when the transaction processes.

I really wish they would open it up to more banks..... or every Mastercard and Visa Card.

I tweeted Wells Fargo, asking them when they are going to support it, and the answer was that they're "always exploring how to improve customers' mobile experiences." Not exactly a signal that they're on board.

You would think any bank/card that supports any form of mobile payments and/or tokenization would work with SPay. The backend setup is already in place.

I've used it several times now with various card readers and it has worked every time but once. That time was at the car wash. Tried is 3 times there and ended up getting my card out.

Battery life does seem to have dropped since the update/S Pay install. Not sure if it's having S Pay always on or if it's the update.

It is just a matter it time. Eventually everyone has to get on board they cannot miss the game changer. See how verizon was forced into it.

Interesting thing I noticed today about Amex. When I used Amex through Samsung Pay, it downloaded all my Amex transactions in this billing period. (Went back to October 4 for me.) I'm not sure if the Citibank cards are doing the same thing -- I haven't used them lately except through Samsung Pay.

Just had a little fun using the app at the grocery where the owner won't enable NFC. When I held my phone up to the card reader, the owner started snapping, "No work! No work! No iPhone!" I said, "This will work. It's a Samsung, not an iPhone." He shook his head and said, "No work!" With that, the receipt popped out of the register. He said, "No work! You use card when I not looking."

A little PS to this story. Tonight I went back to the store. The store owner had taped a piece of cardboard to the NFC pad with “No work iPhone!” written on it. When I held my phone to the terminal to pay, he said, “It no work! I watch!” Again, the transaction went right through. He shook his head, ripped the cardboard off the NFC pad, and mumbled, “It no work. I find out how you do that!"

I disabled "simple pay" all three options, which would disallow the cards to be pulled up from lock screen, home screen, etc. However, I still see the card on the "lock screen", and can bring up Sam Pay screen. Must be a bug? I don't want to be so quick to pull out my credit cards. :-)

Rumors are saying February 2016. AND Bla1ze from Crackberry said that a Verizon Rep, whom told one of the posters over at Crackberry that it would be released in February 2016, Bla1ze backed him up with the confirmation.

I started a post in the S6 Edge forum, I should have just asked here........

So if transactions are going through the magnetic reader, does NFC have to still be turned on?

Thanks,

No. MST will still function without NFC enabled. I tried it last week just to see.

On my galaxy s6, nfc turns on automatically temporarily while Samsung pay is running.

To test, turn off nfc and engage Samsung pay. While it is vibrating pull down the notification bar at the top. N will be there to indicate nfc is active.
