Samsung Pay trick with old-style credit-card readers

Well maybe before reaching and stuff tell them you're going to use Samsung Pay.

That's what I mean, you gotta be careful or you can get in trouble. Sure, you're not ACTUALLY in trouble, since you're really paying, but that won't mean you can't get a funny/couldhaveturnednasty story or a delay out if it from an unsuspecting jumpy clerk.

I dunno. It's never been my habit to just grab stuff. To me that's not being careful, that's just normal proceedings. Every time I pay with something else other than money, like using my carrier points at kfc, I tell the cashier that's what I'm going to use to pay even before I order.

Not exactly. I use my driver's license, so there's no magnetic stripe to cause interference. With this approach, as I start to slide my dummy card through the card reader, I also slide my phone down the outside of the card reader. For some reason, this seems to make some reader think they're being swiped.

With the gas-station trick, I hold my phone just to one side of the card "dipper," and I keep it there as I insert the dummy card and pull it out.

I usually tell them I'm using Samsung Pay, especially if I'm going to hold the card up to the register. I say something like, "I'd like to use Samsung pay, so when you're at the point where you'd normally swipe my card, I'll hold my phone up near the card reader on your register." Most of the time, they say they've never heard of it, but with a little niceness, most cashiers are cool about trying it. Once it works, they get a kick out of it.
