So I have been using Samsung pay since Nov. on my s7 edge without issue. I made a purchase in MD which showed my my credit card. I went to the that store in PA, where I live and had trouble returning the item. They asked me for the credit card ending 4567, which they claim is the card. I have had my credit card for YEARS and that is not the number on my card. I told them I don't know what card that is but it isn't mine. They said they could only return it to that card. The first cashier even tried to tell me they can't use samsung pay and perhaps I should go back to the store in MD, if my MIL wasn't with me I would have cursed her. I asked for the manager because I knew they take samsung pay, I have used it at this store before, the manager confirmed they do. The manager said they would have to mail me a check because I don't have the card. I said listen let's act like I have the card and I will use Samsung pay to see if it goes through. After several refusals she realized I was leaving without trying. It said confirmed. Now when I went to Samsung pay to check, it wasn't there but I noticed a lighter "card" under the card I registered with the same 4 digits they asked for. Is it possible that Samsung pay creates and "dummy" number it prints on receipts? I called them twice and neither rep was paying attention to what i was saying and/or were idiots. TIA

Samsung Pay provides you with a digital card number. They do this for security reasons so that you never provide your actual card number.

Go into your Samsung Pay app and tap on the credit card you are using and look at the card details. You will see a digital card number right underneath the real card number. This is the number they are asking for.

Thanks. . . So what does one do, they were adamant they needed an actual card. I pushed the issue to try it which they did and it worked.

The only thing I can suggest is to go back and show them your card details showing the digital card number along with your real card number and tap on the ? mark right next to the digital card number. Show them what it says, it explains exactly what is happening and shows the number they are asking for is virtually attached to your physical card. Maybe with that knowledge they will be able to process the refund back to you. Merchants can vary in how they process refunds, but maybe with a little more understanding they will be able to do this for you.

If you do go back, please come back here and post your results.

I hope this helps you!

I didn't leave the store without them processing the refund and using Samsung pay when asked for the card. They absolutely didn't want to do. They said they were worried it wouldn't go on that card, even after I repeatedly told them I never had a card with those numbers and it would be an issue with corporate. But they did it, begrudgenly.

Oh ok, you did say "they did and it worked". I misunderstood.

I am glad you stuck to your guns. A lot of merchants do not even know what Samsung Pay is let alone how it works.

If you ever need to do a Samsung Pay refund in the future, you can explain to them what you know to enlighten them and it should be a little less frustrating for you.
