Samsung Prevail

Hey i am new to rooting android. I just updated my OS after i got my Samsung Prevail and I am at Version 2.3.6. I was talking to a friend and he recommended rooting the phone. I already Jail broke my iPod touch so i figured this shouldn't be much harder. I tried downloading a couple one click root programs from android central but it didn't root because of Operation not permitted error. I did put it into Debugging mode and took the SD Card out too. Any ideas on how i can root it? I want to be able to take off some of the apps that are already installed on it that i will not use so i can free up my space. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

You need to enable debugging FALLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER YOU WANT TO ROOT IT?? FALLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!!! SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>DEVELOPMENT>USB DEBUGGING CHECK THE BOX WHEN YOU PUT THE USB CABLE IN SELECT CHARGE ONLY IT NEEDS USB DEBUGGING TO ACESS THE SHELL FRAME WORK TO ROOT THE DEVICE OTHER WISE IT WILL NOT GRANT ACESS TO THE SHELL TO ROOT IT THERE FORE YOU GET THAT ERROR

I HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM!!!??? AND IM PRETTY PC SAVVY AND STILL CANT FIGURE IT OUT. MY LAST PREVAIL HAD TO BE EXCHANGED FOR A NEW ONE BECUSE THE CHARGING PORT BECAME LOOSE AND WOULD NOT CHARGE. THIS PREVAIL CHARGES ALRIGHT BUT I'M WONDERING IF THIS PROBLEM MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH A BAD CHARGING PORT. IT JUST IS NOT RECOGNIZED ON ANY LAPTOP OR PC (WITH SAMSUNG DRIVERS)????? ANY ADVICE???? I WANT TO ROOT BUT WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO DO THIS, I CANT. ... Shift+R improves the quality of this image. funny that you mentioned that. i had to return mine last night due to the fact that after I had rooted an then done a factory reset everything was a mess. But in your case, what kind of usb cord do you have? This is what I downloaded for the drivers SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe. It could be your port to the computer or even the usb cable, don't rule those out. I am actually using a standard cheap usb cable for LG Optimus S but can be used for the Prevail.

1. Open Settings.
2. Open About.
3. Find Build number and tap on it 7 times. You're done when a toast popup appears with the message, "You are now a developer!"
3. Swipe right (to go back) to the Settings menu.
4. Open Developer options.

Hey you can use king root app. Just install it . Then enable the root access your phone. If you want to check your phone is rooted or not. Please install root checker. And check it.
