Android Central Question

My Samsung is now more than 3 years old, and of course the battery doesn't last as long as it used to. However that is the only problem I have ever had with my battery.

The last couple of days, when I have been browsing the web, my phone starts running hot and lags to the point where it freezes. It has never done this before and doesn't happen every time I use my phone extensively the cpl days.
I was browsing the web just as much in the morning and it was fine. Later that night I browsed the web again just as much and it was fine.
So it seems to be completely random.

The first couple of times I turned off my phone, waited for it to cool down and turned it back on. Even though Avast/Malwarebytes were doing scans, I was able to continue browsing without my phone lagging or getting hot. The third time it happened, I simply turned off the Wi-Fi, and it immediately stopped lagging and cooled down. When I turn the wifi back on, same thing, I was able to continue browsing for more than an hour without any issues.
It seems very strange to me and I'm not quite sure what it could be. Any ideas?

My phone wasn't charging at the time that it was lagging, and a security scan shows no issues. The only strange thing I could find was that the settings in my phone allowed my phone location, however I had previously turned that off. I'm not sure if this automatically got changed the last time my phone updated the software though.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Location, if not being called on by any app, doesn't use much current.

I suspect that the battery has just gotten a lot worse, and it's time for a replacement. (A 3 year old phone battery is probably user-replaceable, and probably costs in the US$10 range at Amazon, so it's not a major expense to most people.)

Welcome to Android Central! I agree, get a new battery if possible. I also doubt that you need the antivirus apps running, unless you frequent shady websites, downloaded pirated material, or install questionable apps from Google Play (like any app that's an obvious ripoff of another more popular app).
