Samsung refunding my watch

I guess Samsung is sick of listening to me. They are refunding my watch, and I am buying it again this time with Verizon. I will pick up at the store today. I am not sure I trust anything will be any different with the replacement, since it seems the whole issue is software.

I'll keep you posted. By the way, this is the LTE version.

You've had possibly the most faulty watch on here, so maybe there was a hardware fault, too. At least you can now rule it out or hopefully get a better experience. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I nearly cancelled the entire transaction and just kept mine and waited for an update, but I took your words of wisdom and yes, we will know better if there are faulty devices or if it is just software related. Hoping to get my notification soon from the store that I can pick it up.

When I was working with the rep on my BBB request, when she was still talking to me, I mentioned perhaps the watch was faulty, but she ignored my email and then just blew me off.

Well, I admire your perseverance in buying another one, rather than calling it a day after they refunded you. But to be honest, I would have done the same as you. Far too tempting to think they might solve this thing and in that case, I believe we would have the best all-round smartwatch on the market, with the possible exception of the new Apple Watch (which costs twice the price and would require the purchase of an iPhone).

I returned my first to Best Buy. I was only getting a day of battery life and other issues like steps not registering at all. The new one was much better. I will say that I see improvements, specifically in heart rate. As for battery life I do not see much difference so far. I have HR always on and get just over three days which I am happy with.

That's been my experience with Samsung over the years - they don't want to hear complaints.

I am home with the new watch and the old watch was dropped off at USP.

This activation was much quicker and easier than the first activation. The back button on this watch is a little stiff. And I was able to get the step tracker to activate.

Fingers crossed that my first watch was faulty and not just software, but this is a good test and I am glad I had the perseverance, as sonnet said, to get this done. I am sure you all know I will keep you posted regarding the step tracker. I did my workout today with my watch off me and my phone hanging on me to make sure I got my proper steps. Today is the first day of the monthly step challenge. I did not want to start in the hole.

Excellent news. Good luck! As a precaution, you might want to choose a watch face that DOESN'T have a step counter on it. I saw a video on YouTube which showed that it wasn't counting her steps while she had a face with stepcounter, then when she chose a face without a counter, it counted her steps in the background. I haven't tested this and it may have been fixed with a previous update, but something to consider.
By the way, I've joined the Feb step challenge. I do a fair number of steps, especially when I've been running but some people must be running marathons!

Thank you for the watch face tip. I use a picture on mine.

I will PM you with my account ID and we can be friends and walk together.

Excellent, thanks. Good luck with the step counter on your brand new watch

How are you getting on with this? I know you only got the replacement today, but I'd be intrigued to know.

I bought a Note 9 last week in my attempt to break my Apple affair. The problem is, bored as I am with my iPhone, I absolutely LOVE my Apple Watch Series 4 and not having a decent smartwatch is a deal breaker for me. I bought a TicWatch Pro but it is so sluggish, I can't stay with it.
I had talked myself into trying the GW instead, but based on all the stuff I've seen about the step counter, it's made me pause going to BestBuy.

I used my watch for a number of things:
- viewing and answering notifications with Siri voice dictation
- customised weightlifting routines which I sync to and from the watch which monitor my rest times, progress and heart rate through the workout
- keeping my HR at a constant level during cardio for different lengths of time

Anything less than a totally working product is useless to me. I'm curious if your new watch is now working.

I think at this rate, I may reluctantly have to take the Note 9 back. If there is no decent smart watch, I can't do it.

You had 18,500 plus steps today and are in the top 2 percent. I only had a bit more than 12,000 and I am in the top 4 percent.

Good job!

Well I can't really say yet how the step counter is working because I want to make sure it is not going to be fickle like my first one.

I did get the healthy pace to kick in, so that is good but I only knocked out about 5,000 with the new watch this evening.

I did see some weight lifting work out tracking in the watch that I had not seen before in the S Health app.

I don't use the Bixby but the phone is very clear. The heart rate and stress monitors are very close to the rates on my phone.

I think this watch has a lot of potential. This is my third Samsung smart watch and I never had any problems with the first two, so perhaps the next update will fix any tracking issues.

But I will definitely keep you posted over the next few days. I will have a better idea in a day or two.

I also have a Note 9.

I think you'll beat me today. I tend not to walk as much at the weekend.

So far, it is my assumption that the Galaxy watch, especially the LTE version, needs a software update.

This morning when I woke up I put my phone in my jacket pocket and did my usual morning routine. Made the bed, took a look at the backyard, made myself iced coffee and half sandwich, and I got my dogs and cats their morning treats. This is the the difference in steps between my watch and my phone.

This is a 53 percent difference in steps between the two. Over the course of a day, that is a lot of missed steps. I like to see the rewards of my hard work, plus, it lowers my average in the monthly step challenges.

I am still happy I did the refund and re-purchase. Now I have more evidence that the watch needs a software fix. Also, now that the watch is purchased from Verizon and not Samsung, making warranty claims if things don't improve will be easier since Verizon is much easier to work with.

Hi! As you will see from my comparison post this morning, no, the watch is not reliable for steps. Maybe once Samsung provides an update, but not yet.

Let us know what you decide to do, if you go back to Apple or not.

Keep in mind also that phones and the watch measure steps differently. You can steps to your phone by shaking it or swinging it back and forth. I have tried that with the watch and it does not seen to do that. Obviously they should not be that far apart but when I switched to this phone (prior to the fitbit and this watch) I lost steps on my normal walk. Almost an 1/8 of a mile (US obviously). That was with the phone.. The Fitbit initially fell inbetween. But I had so many connectivity issues that switched to the Galaxy. What is odd is that some have issues with the Galaxy and others not so much. Mine prior to the update was normally close to the phone. But in occasion it was off.. Very odd. I haven't been able to test it since the update because of sub zero temperatures here. I also found that disabling LG Health saved my phone battery and seemed to help the Samsung app..

I hope you get your update soon.. None of this should be so difficult.

I've got it the other way round: 600 more steps on my watch than my phone. Which would make sense because I don't always have my phone on me, eg walking around the house.
But why mine at least appears to be working and yours doesn't, I have no idea.
I'm trying to think of any settings you could change. The only thing I can think of is to go into S Health on the watch, then settings, then profile and check your details are correct, especially your height.

I am being dumb.. Mine was probably off when I didn't have my phone.. LOL. Duh
