Samsung refunding my watch

The Note 8 would sometimes almost double up on the steps but the note 9 seems to be pretty good at tracking all steps and not doubling the stepping but picking up on the steps where the watch leaves misses.

I I'll check my settings but I never had any of this trouble with the gear s1 or the gear S2 or the Gear fit, and I have the same settings in the s health app.

I suggest using only the watch to track your steps. Having the phone and watch both track steps may be causing your issues. I can't see anybody walking around their house with their phone in their hand all day long just to track steps.

I am only using both right now to make up for the lost steps. The Note 9 does a pretty good job with this. Believe me, having to keep my phone on me is not making me real happy.

I am very experienced with step tracking. This device needs an update.

I don't think you can choose for the phone NOT to track steps, it will do it in the background anyway. You can choose whether to display steps tracked by watch, phone or other in the Steps view in S Health, which is what @SG did when she posted the screenshots. So it can't be tracking by both watch and phone which is causing the issue as that's automatic and unchangeable. @skatergirl , I hope you have seen that you can also choose 'All Steps' in the Steps view of S Health which apparently calculates phone and watch together when they are connected. And it doesn't just add the two together (because I've just checked). I think it ignores duplicates and gives you a real total.

Having said all that, if that's all true, then the step counter on the watch is still out because if you wear the watch all day then the figure should be the same as All Steps.

All Steps uses data from all your connected step devices (eg phone and watch) and also 3rd party apps to calculate. So if you are serious about your step counting, you probably want to be looking at the All Steps figure because I think the watch, by itself, undercounts.

Excellent news. Good luck! As a precaution, you might want to choose a watch face that DOESN'T have a step counter on it. I saw a video on YouTube which showed that it wasn't counting her steps while she had a face with stepcounter, then when she chose a face without a counter, it counted her steps in the background. I haven't tested this and it may have been fixed with a previous update, but something to consider.
By the way, I've joined the Feb step challenge. I do a fair number of steps, especially when I've been running but some people must be running marathons!//uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190201/2f063b85a30eb5758292751f152e86b5.jpg

Thanks Kko. I've seen that video too, but I'm wondering if that particular issue has been fixed since she posted the video. I sometimes use Matteo Dini's watchfaces (check them out on the Galaxy App store, they are amazing)

http://apps.samsung.com/gear/brandPage.as?sellerId=xfotdpp9sw&brandId=0000000006

and his have step counters on them and steps still update.
However, the fix in the video might work for some people who aren't finding that. Thanks for posting.

Dear Sonnnet you are welcome! Thank you too for your valuable experience input to the forum.

Thanks Kko. Are you still considering buying the Galaxy Watch? After the software update, the previous problems (HR, GPS etc) seem to have been fixed, although I've only had the update for a day.
If this continues, we finally have a fantastic all round smartwatch and fitness tracker. Stay tuned to the forum!

Sonnnet hi...yeah I am definetely considering buying the 46mm and I cant wait... But I trying very hard to wait until the MWC end of this month, hopefully that maybe sth new is announced from Samsung. However this is very unlikely. They may come with the new one later in Sept. with Note10.
So yeah I am tuned on a daily basis at the forum 😉
I hope you have good news very soon after your update...Good luck!!!

Yes, for now, I am wearing my phone around me while I work out since it is the only real accurate counter I have at the moment. I have watched both the watch and the phone. The watch will completely stop tracking, while I am moving. The phone does not stop until I stop.

I activated this watch Friday late afternoon. For working out, it says I have worked out 1 hour and 10 minutes in three days. Ha! I have worked out at least six hours since Saturday morning, and that is being conservative.

So for now, I wear the phone around me while I am working out and moving so that I can get my steps.

Oh no, sounds like it's not going well at all.

Just a thought (and it won't work for all day, so might not be of use), but when you, say, go for a walk, or a run, or another exercise, how does the step count work for you if you actively log the exercise? So when I go for my lunchtime walk (about 30mins or more), I don't just let it auto detect, I start a 'walking' exercise. The steps for the exercise itself then track well for me.

I know it won't help for the short walks you do here and there, but at least major activities (where you do the most steps) should track and you'll get other stats too.

Or maybe you do that already?

I did think about tapping start exercise to see if that could work as a workaround for now. I will try that today.

One last thing to check (in case at some point you turned it off by accident): In Settings/Connections/Location, is location definitely on and have you set it to 'GPS and Wireless' which is the most accurate setting to detect your location. This may also help with the watch calculating steps.

Well, it is always nice when I have some nice news to report.

I had to run to Walmart today for grocery shopping and of course when I am pushing a cart, I don't seem to get many steps even though I was there for more than an hour. So, I decided today to go for a walk in the snow and ice. Yes, I almost slipped twice, landed hard once on my ankle, but it was a great workout. My buns really feel it.

Anyway, I digress ... I remembered to tap on workout when I started. For the first 15 minutes I had it set at walking until I said to myself, this is not walking, this is hiking. Though I was not going up hill, it felt like it. Snow is amazing for working out. So, I changed it to hiking.

I love having the workout set. I love seeing the, well almost, constant heart rate. But I have 8,897 steps on my watch, more on my watch than on my phone, which was in my pocket the whole time on my walk/hike so that I could listen to music with my ear buds. So, the total right now seems fair.

I have a 30-minute dance workout this evening, so the steps on my watch are going to be around 12,000 ... if it continues to cooperate. I sure do wish dancing was an option in the workouts. It used to be an option in S Health before a few or more updates ago.

Anyway, I was used to waiting for the healthy pace to finally kick in and it just wasn't. So, I really like this workout option on the watch. I am not sure what to set it for as for dancing. It's not walking, running or circuit training.

Oh .. and yes, I have locations and all the GPS settings turned on.

Thank you so much again for all your help.

Speaking of snow and work out, my watch always congratulate me with an excellent Cycling Workout after clearing my driveway of snow, using either shovel or thrower, LOL:D:D:D.

I have to say that I am happy because I got more steps than what I thought the watch would give me, but the steps it should be giving me.

I am still not ready to give this device my seal of approval, but setting the watch for a workout seems to be a good trigger to keep it moving.

And I really enjoy all the stats in the workout log. I like the elevation in the snow hiking. Can't wait to be get into that mountains for higher elevation snow hiking. Screen_20190206_181718.jpegScreen_20190206_190910.jpeg

Excellent stuff

Thanks, yes.

I noticed today that during my workout, using workout, it did record 58 minutes of working out instead of the 60 minutes of actual workout. The watch still wants to think the workout has stopped and asks if I want to "finish?" I hit the back button and it goes back to recording.

Still a ton better than waiting for the watch to be even close to accurate.
