Before I pre order one. The S8 and S8+ have different ppi, 570ppi and 529ppi respectfully. Would this make the s8 clearer on the Gear VR than the s8+?

That's interesting. Thanks Mike. I've been searching all day for a write up on the subject. I cannot decide between the two. It really is the pixels, screen size and battery that differ them. Never had such a hard choice in picking a phone. ??????

If I were buying primarily for VR, I would definitely go with the smaller set. At this point, it's pretty clear that the difference in pixel density still makes a difference. Eventually that may change - as they the write-up linked below notes Oculus is working on the problem. But, if you are buying TODAY, that doesn't help you too much.

The smaller size is also a bit of an advantage because of the weight.

It really is avrough choice for me. I want the bigger of the two for day to day use, but I am going to try a Samsung for their first time as I want gear VR. I think I'm going to have a play with the two at my local store today and just go off what feels best in my hand.

I do love the Gear VR and it looks fine on the S7 Edge and the DPI for the S8+ should be similar.

I can't even use gear vr long enough to watch a movie without overheating on S7. Does the s8 run cooler longer? I wanted to like gear vr, but 10-30 minutes until overheat in a 40-50 F room and I decided to stop risking phone damage. Plus its too loud to take it in and out in a room with someone sleeping. It's the S8 updated gear vr quieter to lock and load?

I always use headphones, makes it much more immersive

The Gear VR I got with my 7 Edge sits on a shelf. I suppose someone will be enticed by it when I bundle it with the phone on Craigslist. The thing can't be used more than a few minutes before overheating and shutting down the phone. Even if it wasn't for that fatal flaw, the screen door effect of magnifying the pixels on the screen hardly makes for a pleasurable VR experience. The new VR with the controller offered in the S8 promotion might make it more interesting to play with...until it overheats.

I don't think anyone has really tried it with Gear VR extensively. Well I cant find anything online
