Samsung S8 won't charge when switched off

[Android Central Question]

Hi

Recently my S8 has refused to charge when it's switched off coming up with a Yellow Exclamation mark, however when it's powered on it charges ok. It was charging ok even switched off when i went back to using an old school charger and using the USB Type-C to Micro USB but even that gave up the ghost yesterday.

Any ideas. It's still in warranty but i don't really want to wait for it to be sent off to be sorted

Hi, yes i'm using the original charger. I've tried some after market ones but they have the same issue (whether it's using a plug or just usb). My old charger with usb3/micro adapter has started working again when the phone is switched off, but the new style chargers are flat refusing to work.

Make sure the charging port is clean -- use a can of compressed air to blow it out, and a small Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the contacts. If that doesn't help, then see if it persists in Safe Mode: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-34283. If it still persists, then I'd guess it's a hardware problem with the charging port, which unfortunately will mean a warranty call.
