Samsung Ships Galaxy S22 Series With Google Messages In The US

Until they give me a way to hide the messages when you pull down the notification, I am sticking with Textra.

Sure you can. All you have to do is hold down the airplane and select the time.

I was like "airplane"? Then I realized that you meant the "send" button. I've never looked at it as an airplane, but I realize that it's sort of a paper airplane. LOL. But yes, I schedule texts all the time with Google Message. The only thing I prefer with Samsung messages is the ability to include it in a Theme. I would like to have more options on background and color.

I just, this week, started using Google messages at the suggestion of the members in this group and agree with this. I expected it wouldn't theme out like Samsung, but I can't even adjust backgrounds/colors? Lame, but at least it transitions to dark mode.

With that said, it appears to be the solution to AT&T advanced messaging being subpar (I think it overrides normal RCS experience in Samsung messages). So far, in general, I'm pretty happy and can see sticking to it. I can appreciate making this the default since even my friends on cheap, more random Android phones are using it and I love the experience now.

The other small thing I miss from Samsung to Google messages, is the tabs/sorting. It's really convenient to switch to "shipping" and look for a package update vs scrolling through a bunch of text threads for example. Or to separate out coworkers not using my work line vs actual friends/family.

So I downloaded Google Messages from the Play Store and ...
Where is the option to change messages background for each conversation??
The font doesn't match the rest of the font you set your phone too?
Samsung messages allows you the see all the media photos exchanged between you and the person you are texting with. Saves times from scrolling a bunch of msgs to find the one photo or information you're looking for. Google messages doesn't have that option.

Bad move in my opinion. Will we still be able to download Samsung Messages? I prefer it.

Is there a way to turn off the swipe to archive function? It's so annoying where I'm scrolling through and my input accidentally registers as a swipe and then the conversation gets archived. Then I have to go to archived convos and un-archive it.

If it's the same as the S21 series you won't have to download it, both will be installed as system apps.

Samsung are improving, but they still love their bloat.

Samsung‘s all-new Galaxy S22 series comes with Google Messages as the default SMS app in the US. The app features a modified interface that matches One UI’s aesthetic. The overall functionality of the app doesn’t change though.

Cool...at least I like it. However, to be honest, I never tried the Samsung messaging app.

I have been wondering if this was going to happen since members here have been using the beta with the Samsung UI skin.

I do really like the Samsung messaging app, but I may at least try Google Messages. Probably won't matter much as most of my texting is with iPhone users. In the long run, I'll probably stick with Samsung Messages if it's still a choice.

Thanks!

I like google messages better anyway because you can do it on the PC too and it syncs with whats on the phone.

Same here, it connects flawlessly with the YOUR PHONE app on my laptops. However, never tried the Samsung app to see if it would connect too.

So, does anyone here use the Samsung messaging app and connect their messages, via the YOUR PHONE app, to their PCs?

Hit the search icon in the top right and it will bring you to a screen that shows image files and videos.

I switched to Google Messages a while back for the RCS support. It would be great if the RCS apis were released by Google so other SMS apps can use it too. I dont know if I want to use the Samsung version of it, or the raw Google one since I'm on that Google messages beta program, and feel that Google might be updating their app quicker than the Samsung one? Not sure about that though.

RCS is available on Samsung messages as well. In the past I've used Textra as an alternative. I'm not sure if RCS is on it or not. Textra has a ton of features and theming. I agree that Google messages is just boring to use and look at. If I want to keep track of a conversation, it's easy enough to pin it. Just long press on conversation and select pin.

I can't access RCS. Maybe blocked by ATT? Or I could be doing something wrong. That's always a thing with me!
