Hi to all, hoping someone can help me out here.
I have just bought a new samsung tablet 3, 7inch wifi for my daughter (12 years).
Unpacked and set up device (wife has a tab 2 10.1 and we both have galxy phones : s2 and note 1), so we are familiar with the android system.
All seemed fine until it was left alone for around 10 minutes.
It turns itself off, totally off and rests the time to january 1st, 2012, which in turn renders the wifi inoperable (showing good signal strength, but no connection).
When I go into settings for the wifi, it is constantly searching for a connection and no matter how many times I reset the time and date (which then allows the wifi to function), if left alone for any time, it turns itself off again and I have to go through the entire process again.
Have asked samsung if they have a fix or explanation, the silence from them is deafening.
Any suggestions?

If there was an update, try rebooting into recovery and clearing cache.
I am not sure, but you can try this: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ing-into-recovery-mode-galaxy-s2-s3-tab2.html
Follow the steps for the S3, and that should bring you to recovery.

Hi, cheers.
Tried that, to no avail, only difference is that now it lasts all of 20 minutes before it powers off, and is very reluctant to power on again, still with the date and time reset. Seems odd that it cannot have the time and date from the server, like my phone.

Strange.... Not sure what to suggest next.

Hi,

I have noticed exactly the same problem on my new tab 3. It shuts down and then when I start it up the date and time has been reset. :'(

My daughter's Tab 3 7.0 (Samsung SM-T210R) had a similar same issue with the date/time resetting.

First I tried clearing the cache. Then I did a factory reset. This didn't fix the issue.

In my case, I noticed a small "pop" sound when the device would restart. At first I thought it was the sound of an electrical short, but then I noticed a defect with the plastic surrounding the on/off switch. The button would occasionally stick in the "on" position, depending on how it was pressed. This appeared to put the device into a soft-reset usually in a minute or so after turning it on (when the switch would pop free).

I just took a sewing needle and cleared out the plastic around the switch. This seemed to have completely fixed all issues for me: no more random reboots, no more date/time resetting. I don't know that this is the issue you are seeing, though if a factory reset doesn't fix the issue, I'd look for a mechanical cause before returning the device.

Hey everyone, Just wanting to see if anyone found anything out yet? My husband had bought us 2 of these tablets, both 7 inch galaxy tab 3. My husbands would shut down probably 2 times a day everyday, from the day we bought it. Mine started 2 weeks after buying it. When they would shut down, they would start back up and the date would be set back to Dec. 2011. So its just weird that BOTH tablets do this. I have tried resetting our tabs back to factory setting, does not work. Still shuts down and resets time and date. I have checked for updates and it says everything is up to date. I have tried contacting Samsung Galaxy numerous times about this in the past 4 months with no response. Its so frustrating.
