My wife has a Samsung Tab 3 - never backed up and now the charging port is broke. We can send it off to get repaired, but some of her documents have sensitive details. (I know I told her don't save them and has she got a copy, had all that....)

She has a 16GB SD card which is not being used, so I am trying to work out how to copy the documents and downloads onto the SD card. I think it's using Jelly Bean, looking at MY FILES then it's not very clear how you do this.

The other issue is now the tablet only has 46% battery charge, so what I ever I do it really has to work 1st time.

I really need a visual screen pics showing me what I have to do to copy the files from the internal to SD card. I am looking on YouTube, but as yet can't find anything for Jelly Bean.

Any help or advice would be good on this point.

To get a visual step by step guide would take time and I doubt any of the guys on here would have a a Tab 3. It's getting on in age like me.
The process is very simple. You just need to find the files using My Files. Select a file by long pressing it. You may be able to select multiple files. In your version of My Files I think the copy command is at the bottom of the screen, then through My Files navigate to Ext sd card and paste. Check the files are on the SD card preferably by using a card treader on your Pc. Once you are satisfied they are safely backed up you can then go back to my files and delete the originals.
Under no circumstances use the move command!

As an aside you may well find it uneconomical to repair the device. Jelly Bean is old and insecure. When the battery fails, which it will, replacing it with a new battery will be impossible
