Samsung talks Gingerbread update.

I think we will see this update sooner than most think after all the heat Sammy/Sprint took over Froyo's delay. Guess were gonna have to wait and see. Until then leaked EE03 is fine with me ;)

Paul, is EE03 good enough for a daily driver?

So far I have only flashed the modem and it didn't work out too well with pretty erratic 3G. It seems like the opinions about EE03 both here and at XDA are all over the place.

Opinions vary.. Myself I like it. Sure it has a quirk or two, but first thing you have to put in your mind is this is a leak build. Its a darn good one, but you can't expect perfection from a official build let alone a leak.

Daily driver, sure I think so.. Everything to function as a daily driver works.

I love EE03. I did not have 4G at home now I do. This leak is better than official update from Sprint. I do not have to wait 5 or 6 seconds to connect when I make a call. This leak is fast in my Epic. The FM radio does not work. I do not care.

Thanks for the insight on EE03. I will have to give it a try later today.

If you go by the actual press release. news SAMSUNG

The phones they list are the Samsung GALAXY S, GALAXY Tab, and GALAXY Ace/Gio/Fit/mini, giving users enhanced performance and an improved user interface.

I personally don't believe they are talking about the US based Galaxy S phones in this release.

The Android 2.3 upgrade will start with GALAXY S in the UK and Nordic countries from mid-May, and gradually rolled out to other European markets, North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, Africa and rest of the world according to the regional plan.
I believe that more than qualifies us... These are all Galaxy S based phones regardless of it being Epic 4g/Fascinate/Captivate/Vibrant

Sprint and/or Samsung would never be investing the dev work that has produced the multiple, leaked Gingerbread ROMs for the Epic unless they planned to release something someday. And Samsung's general announcement including "North America ... according the the regional plan" is similar to language the global manufacturer formerly used to discuss Froyo.

It is all a question of when these releases come.

Trust me, I hope you are correct. I would love to be wrong in this case. My guess is that the reference to the North America part is the Gingerbread release for the Galaxy Tabs in North America, but not the phones. They listed specific phones is the main reason that I don't believe that the US Galaxy S Series is getting the update in May/June. Again though, I would love to be wrong in my guess.

You can always count on the Devs much more than Samsung or Sprint.

Cause they've made SOO much progress with cyanogenmod 7, right? I trust the samsung device devs less than the HTC ones. I remember when I had the Hero, Toast wrote the drivers himself to get froyo on the Hero when Sprint/HTC said no. The CyanogenMod devs for the epic will not write their own code, they want to wait for source, which means you will not get MMS or Camera to work properly until Samsung releases Gingerbread source for the Epic, which means I'll be on a new device before that happens (almost bought the Tbolt today, lots of good kernels for that device).

I'm not sure what you are looking for but I have been very happy with SRF, Baked Snack and ACE and think the devs did a great job. Other phones, like the EVO, do get more support. I don't know why that is as the hardware is definitely not as good as the Epic's.

If the Tbolt works better for you, good luck with it.

None of those are GB, no one wants to write drivers for this phone, which is why we only go as far as samsung/sprint want us to go. Kinda sad my Hero is sporting a more modern OS than the Epic. Not only that, it runs GB much better than the phone with the better internals.

Andrew, such negativity... Maybe the latest build of GB, today actually EE19 will help put these questions to rest that Sammy/Sprint is trying hard to get this out to us.

On the TBolt subject have at it man. Our babysitter just got the TBolt a week or so ago. She loves it but also charges it about 5 times a day and goes nowhere without her wall charger in hr purse because battery life is that bad...

I know your not happy with Sprint or Sammy but I think this time around they are really trying to make a difference with the attention and builds they are putting into GB.

One sure fire way they could improve performance is by exorcising CIQ, if the info at XDA is to be believed. ;)

Those who doubt can laugh all they want all I know is in the past I don't remember an OS getting this much attention and the possibility of seeing a 3rd leaked build within a little over a months time. Plus there was EE12 which wasn't mentioned much so it does show they are working hard to get this done.
