SanDisk memory card not working

I have a Samsung galaxy mini s3 and I've been using it without a memory card but now it's basically all used up I bought a 8gb SanDisk memory card and it said it was registering it when I turned my phone back on but when I go to download stuff it still says "insufficient storage available" still! What do I do?!

Welcome to Android Central! How much Internal Storage do you have left, and what are you trying to download? If you're trying to download and install apps, you still have to have enough Internal Storage, since you can't install directly to the external SD card.
