Saving photos to Google Photos and backing them up

When I take a photo, I know it's saved to my Samsung Gallery, but I thought I'd also set it up to save to Google Photos. I see a little thumbnail appear which, but whether I tap it or not, the photos only seem to randomly appear in Google Photos.

Also, the photos in Google Photos are only backed up when I manually click the cloud icon to upload them...this wasn't the case on my old BlackBerry Priv.

Can anyone please help?

I actually turn that off. Lol.

But do you have Photo sync turned on in the settings?

I do - that's the only thing I can think of, but it's switched on!

Is your Google Photos app up to date? It was glitching recently, and not adding newly-taken photos immediately to its database.

Is your Google Photos app set to back up only on wi-fi, or only when plugged in? Check its settings -- that might be why it isn't backing up automatically.

Also, if you're talking about images in directories other than the /DCIM/Camera directory, then open Google Photos, swipe in from the left, and tap Device Folders. Now tap the cloud icon for whichever directories you want automatically backed up. A blue cloud icon means that it is set to back up automatically.
