Is saving photos directly to the SD card an option?

Followup: If so, is the speed the same as using the internal memory when taking photos?

Yes, you can photos to the SD card. The speed is dependent upon the speed of the SD card. If you purchase the new SanDisk 400GB MicroSD, the write speed is 100MB/S.

SD cards are plenty fast for taking photos, and handle 4k video just fine as well. They are the only memory availabe to DSLR cameras after all, if they weren't fast enough it would cripple the cameras.

With that said, internal storage is faster, may notice a difference in speed for the gallery loading, and the phone may save burst photos to the main memory as some phones do that.

Look in the camera app settings, should be an option for where to save, many phones will have a pop up when opening the camera app after inserting an SD Card as well.

Thanks. My Moto Z Force seems a tad slow taking/saving photos but it may be the phone, not the SD card.

Is it possible to move a batch of photos from internal to external SD?

Sorry ive been off android for over a year now lol

Speed is dependent on type of card you get. Cheaper cards will be slower and you'll notice it when saving pics and worse on 4k video. Look at the specs. Get a UHS-I Speed Grade 3 (U3) & Class 10 card

I picked up a Samsung Evo 128gb card for $40 so it won't break the bank and speed read/write has been awesome.

I saw my buddies iPhone and he scrolls through his gallery and it is fast with all the thumbnails filled with photos; no preloading image. My Moto Z loads thumbnails as i scroll. It takes a while. How is the V30?

Thumbnails are built the first time that you view and a cache is built so that subsequent views are quicker.

This is the exact behavior I am seeing when browsing the thumbnails of images on my SD card. I can see the bottom row of thumbnails being added as I scroll. After I leave the album, browse another, and return to the previous, the previously built thumbnails load with no lag.

I am using "piktures" by Diune as my photo viewer app.

I don't have that problem, I'm using the stock lg gallery and have closed the gallery and tried again without having it preloaded and my SD saved gallery loads up in an instant, no loading time on thumbs.

Make sure your running the fastest SD card possible if you want a fast experience on your phone. I can't comment on the 3rd party gallery app your running. Try with stock and see if you have the loading problem, if you do it's probably your SD cards read write speeds are to slow .

It might delete the thumbnails if you clear the cache on your phone.
