Says earphones are plugged in when they're not

I dropped my phone in water and the only thing that has happened is that my phone is now registering as though my earphones are in but they are not. I cannot listen to music out loud or talk on the phone now without earphones. Please help! Is there a way to get my phone to realize there aren't actually any earphones plugged in????

I just want to say thank you for this post. All the comments help get it fix on my stylo 2.

You can blow into your phone where you plug in your earphones it helps my fone did the same thing twice and I blew into that little hole and it just stopped saying I have earphones in...

Thank you that worked for my stylo 2 headset jack.

I took some toilet paper in the headphone jack and i heard sound again. My phone is waterproof if your is not then it could be damage to the phone causing the problem

So all I did was restart it 2 times at first then I blew into my charger port and into the Jack port then restarted it again and then boom it worked

I have a ZTE blade Vantage
