Internet works as fast as it did on a blackberry I had with verizon. But why am I getting 3G in a standard network area. Is sprint testing 3G in all its main coverage areas now that 4G is kickin' it?
ive noticed in places that many times i'd switch down to 1x, i've been getting a reliable 3G connection.
ive actually never seen the phone ever go into 1x.
weird. and good i guess.
Are you coming from a blackberry by any chance?
Are you sure the 3G icon is lit up? If you are on 1xRTT area, the 3G icon will be a dull greyish color, while when you are in an active 3G area, the 3G icon will be bright white.
I don't think the phone ever says 1x on it like the Pre did.
Of course, I may be 100% wrong about this. Just speculation from what I have experienced.
I am not in a 3G area and I am seeing 3G as well (and I know there's no recent towers or whatever, since my friend works in Sprint and I asked him about this 3G icon thing). On the manual, it does say there's supposed to be an 1x icon. The weird part is that I downloaded the speed test app and it's reporting speeds that don't belong to either 1x or EVDO, I get something like 200ish down and 250ish up (upload is always faster for some reason), I wonder if the speed test app wasn't calibrated for the Evo or something, cause websites don't seem to load any faster than before.
