Update: I wasn't able to get Verizon to give me a replacement for the scratch. No one there really had any clue what I was talking about or that Gorilla Glass is not supposed to scratch. But I did figure out that if you clean it up real nice and put a good quality screen protector on it, the scratch is more or less gone. It is completely unnoticeable.
Hope that helps anyone out.
I have the same problem. Not a scratch, but a permanent smudge thingy that goes away and comes back. I too had a DX, not a scratch or smudge on it.Yep, that's exactly how I would describe it. It isn't a "scratch" per se, but like some of the finish came off. If it gets skin oil in it then it shows up. If I wipe it off with my tie, shirt, glasses cleaner, etc., it disappears. But the next time oil gets in it it reappears. It's pretty frustrating. I've almost decided I have to get a good screen protector once they actually come out and put it on so the oils can't make these scuffs reappear.

I think the quality of the Gorilla glass has been compromised on the Droid 3. The glass scratches much easier on the Droid 3 than the Droid 1. My Droid 1 was pretty much bullet proof. 2 years no screen protector no scratches. My Droid 3 less than a week one scratch down by the home keys. Major overheating issues in the car dock. 20 days later after overheating in the car dock I put it in my pocket and the screen shattered against my thigh. hundreds of spider line cracks traveling from where the scratch was. Also the phone was hot enough to burn my thumb when I took it out of the car dock. WTF Motorola? If you have scratching and overheating Please report this to Motorola. Either I got a lemon or there are issues with the Droid 3.
Here is the real kick in the pants Motorola has voided my warranty because of the screen crack. This is a 20 day old device. 190 degrees in the car dock! What is wrong with this. After the screen crack no more gps lock, it won't recognize my computer, Motorola's remote diagnostic tool can't access the phone and the battery wont take a charge!
Please report overheating issues. you will not only help me but all others that come across this problem.
Thanks everybody
