Scratch on screen - super frustrated

Hello all

Woke up today as usual getting ready for work. On my way driving to work I look at my phone and see this scratch, because I was driving at the time, I just wiped my thumb over it and set the phone back on the holder not thinking too much of it. I get to work and look at the screen again, and it's still there. Unfortunately, the glass has been scratched to what looks like a permanent scratch.

I'm very, very frustrated as I've never had a single scratch on my phones ever before, and I feel lost. I don't know if I should spend upwards of $300 at a phone repair shop to fix it, or find another alternative (DIY style - I'm not handy AT ALL).

I've attached a couple of pictures to show you what I'm talking about. Please pitch in with any piece of advice you may have.

Edit: I should add I have Sprint and no insurance. Also, FWIW, never leave it my pocket with keys or coins (who uses coins anymore anyway?!), and have never dropped it.

You can try polishing and buffing it. If you're brave you can use tools like this guy: Vibrant Gorilla Glass Scratch Repair | Samsung Vibrant | XDA Forums

If you're wary of doing that, you could still try to polish by hand. And then try reapplying the oleophobic coating.

And then when you are done, put a glass screen protector on it.

Edit: For myself personally, if it wasn't affecting the touch or spen functioning of the phone, I would not spend any significant money on it or risk damaging it further anyway. I would just try polishing it by hand, maybe applying the coating, and then just live with it. I put a glass screen protector on the first week anyway so I can just replace that if it gets scratched. But in your case, I would not spend hundreds of dollars for one relatively small scratch. Up to you of course.

Thats a couple dollar screen protector should always be used. I notice a ton of scratches on my protectors and always am so happy when i pull it off and know screen wasnt scratched

I have just hairline surface abrasions on my phone after being pocketed for a year and tossed onto tables and basically handled like a flip phone. I see it as a tool, not a jewel though. So mine has a couple dings on the plastic corners and some very slight scuffing on the pleather back and that's it. My phone has been naked since day 1. I don't like putting a wavy piece of plastic over my 1080p OLED screen. I have even used my EDC knife on my screen to show people it doesn't scratch and protectors are useless. So something very sharp and hard hit yours if that is a scratch. Does it have depth? May be hard to feel so maybe get a toothpick and see if there is a cut or if it's just a heavy "smudge".

Can't make it much worse hopefully. I would try this and if still unhappy I guess spend the money and get a pro to fix it.

You can probably bring this out, depending on the depth of the scratch. jpr's xda link is probably what will work best for you. The Mashable link really is only trying a bunch of home-remedy polishers. You can try them, but don't hold your breath. You can also try a jeweler who works with glass. You'll have to absolve them of any liability though. Good luck.

Wonder if an automotive glass repair shop could fix? They have fillers that might work and lots of experience working with glass.
