So after about probably about 5 months of having this phone I already have minor scratches on the screen. Haven't been abusive with it just keep it in my pocket when not in use. Kinda irritates me since I had an eris and that thing went through a beating. Am I able to replace the screen if any serious ones arise?

No screen shield? I keep mine in my pocket too but make sure I don't have keys or change in with it. Also, I have a screen shield on it. Have always used one on all touch phones.

As for replacing the screen, if it got real bad, I'd probably call Asurion and file a claim. The deductible isn't cheap though. $80 I think.

the asurion deductible is $99

I had mine without a screen protector for a month and have some small scratches. Didn't care about scratches on other phones but I plan on keeping this one for a while. So I use the smartphone experts screen protectors. You get 2 for 12 bucks, their anti glare bit actually look decent and hold up to scratches pretty good.

Put it in a sleeve and then put it in your pocket. That will protect it from pocket debris just fine.

I had my Fascinate for over a year with zero scratches on the screen. I've had my Nexus since it came out and have several micro scratches. Guess they should have gone with actual Gorilla Glass rather than a cheap imitation.

What I'll probably do is add insurance to it, I discontinued it with this phone cause nothing really happened with my eris. I talked to a rep and they said I can still add asurion even after the 30day period. Just kind of upsets me that this could happen. I got this phone because it was supposed to be next generation but it seems like it has the same kind of screens that my original nokia brick had. Same goes for the Maxx. My brother drops it once about 2 feet from the floor and now it looks like he dropped it from his head, wasn't the selling point of the Razr and Razr Maxx that it had one of the strongest glass on the market? Personally I'm all about having the newest technology inside my phone but if I have to care for it like a baby there's no use in having it.

Are you saying you are going to file an insurance claim on scratches? And scratches that happened before you had the insurance?

No, I'm going to get it as a precaution so that if they do in fact get worse or if I do get a handful of more scratches that it intrudes on my experience from this phone then I might. I understand that it's my own stupid fault for not having a screen protector but I honestly haven't needed one on any of my devices, my iPod, last eris, or LG voyager so I thought to my self, better phone, better quality screen durability. Guess not.

Well, glass is glass. It breaks/scratches. And these phones have a lot more glass than dumbphones. So your phone may survive a 5 foot fall on gravel with no breakage, but a 1 foot fall on concrete will shatter the screen. Its all about how it falls and what part takes the impact. Also, if you are gonna get so upset about some scratches, should have had a sp on it. I've had a G1, G2, Droid2, and thunderbolt and never had a sp or case on em. Only the G1 survived wo a broken screen. All of them had lots of scratches on them. Now I have a sp and otter box defender on my nexus because I don't plan on upgrading for a long time. I don't want to risk going naked, cause I shattered my tbolt 1 week after purchase so I'm being extra careful. But adding insurance for scratches after the fact is ridiculous. You took a risk and lost. I could see if your screen is busted, or you drop your phone in the toilet you'd try to get ins. Right or wrong I could at least understand insurance fraud, not necessarily agree. One more thing. There is more than lint in your pocket. And just about anything in their will scratch your screen. Either a sp, sock or a pouch is a huge help. End Rant.

Glad to hear it. Many posters advise people to get insurance after they break their phone. Sorry to hear about your scratches. I have two Gnexes, one since release day, and cannot see any scratch on them. I hate screen protectors but do carry in a belt holster. I have had an iPhone 3gs and an Incredible. The Dinc has one scratch that appeared after I had it for about a year. I hear that holsters are very uncool but I am old enough to not worry about cool and too used to having things in my pockets. I even wear a watch!

Hi Here is a post that I had in the Rezound forum "Really fantastic product for your screen"
Just wanted to share a great product that I ran across on my search for something that would help with fingerprints on my screen. It doesn't really help all that much with fingerprints but it does make it easier to wipe them off. What it does do is give your screen a super slick finish and makes it look like new. It is by Turtle Wax and it is called ICE. It is a synthetic wax that you can use on paint, glass, chrome, plastic and rubber. I clean my screen with eyeglass cleaner and then apply a coat and let it dry followed by 4 or 5 more coats (letting each one dry before applying the next one) and then I take a soft cloth and buff it really good. You can use as many coats as your want to as there is no build up. If you have a screen protector it makes the screen protector feel more like the naked screen. I love this stuff and use it about once a week on my phone. I just thought I would share this info for those of you who like to keep a really nice screen.

ONE OF THE REPLYS WAS -"also use this on my car. Make sure you are using the synthetic wax and NOT the polish because if the Polish gets on the black plastic and dries it can discolor it white. So I was not going to try this on my new Rezound but I do have my old Dinc that I was running naked for the past year so I gave it a try. Wow, forget about the fingerprint resistance, what it also did was "remove" all of my tiny nicks and surface scratches and that was with just one coat. My screen now looks like day 1."

So maybe give this a try-it really is a great product and I use it all the time on my phones. Hope it helps you!!

These new devices you have to treat them like babies lol I thought all these android devices were using gorilla glass?? Even if they aren't though...keeping i in your pocket(alone) shouldn't scratch it up...especially for the price of these damn things!!

I know, it's kinda nuts that even a piece of grit can do work on the screen. That's why I have my trusty sock with me at all times ;).

I have posted this elsewhere ... but this phone appears very susceptible to scratching. There are several threads about scratching.

Glass is a hard substance and does not scratch easily although it can/does happen in the right conditions.

I do not use cases or screen protectors. I have never broken glass or phone from 'dropping' (just lucky so far). I have had an EVO, DX(2), D2 Global all which had zero to 1 scratch on them.

However, I have tons of scratches on this thing ... probably a dozen or more. Nobody has confirmed but I think the oleophobic coatings on the screen are scratching kind of like a pair a pair of sunglasses (ex. oakleys). This seems to make more sense than anything else.

I may warranty this (been paying for warranty for years and never used) ... break down and buy a screen protector despite how much I hate them.

I'd agree with that. You can even tell when wiping, and depending on the thickness of the coating, it's quite easy to get a "scratch" there if thick enough.

I'm sorry but I LOL'd at that. COME ON...you shouldn't have to do that. I'm ridiculously cautious regarding the screen of this phone (phone in general), but not to the point I'd "sock-it" even to put in my pocket. Look at me in my suit in a business meeting pulling out my sweet phone in a sock!! That said, I noticed a tiny nick (that's probably only on the oleophobic coating...can't feel it at all) with the screen off in bright sunlight the other day. I was furious for a few mins as I'm anal, but it's def only the slightest bit noticeable (and on the edge) in that scenario. Still, with the way I treat this phone that should NEVER happen. Love my sexy nexy, but call a spade a spade. That's b*ll . Guess I'm going screen protector to stave off any future possible nicks or scratches. I plan on having this phone a long time. I'm sure I'll have to try a few and probably hate them and go without. We'll see. Any recommendations Android people? Picture of it on would be very much appreciated.

I'm not stupid enough to bring it in a sock to a meeting. I own a sleeve for that ;).

And I do it because anything can happen; better safe than sorry. Guess that explains my lack of nicks, scratches, etc. on all of the devices I've owned thus far :). Or at least I tell myself that...lol

Haha well that's good! What if the evil scratch gnome jumps in YOUR pocket during that meeting?! I'm telling you man, sans "socking it," I'm so careful and anal with this phone. It has a dedicated pocket and I use a sticky roller on the inside of said pocket each morning before nexy gets in there...and it happened to me. Again, you can only see it at the perfect angle with the screen off in bright sunlight, but I know it's there and it bothers me because I'm anal about some things.

Point is, as others have said, either the coating or the big beautiful screen itself scratches WAY too easily on this otherwise amazing device. I'm too careful and have had too many other phones that looked like I just bought them after owning them for 1-2 years to blame anyone but Sammy.

I had mine for quite a while without a screen protector. I ended up finding a small scratch on my screen :'(
I put on a screen protector afterwards and I totally forgot about it lol
