Not sure if this is common for Samsung devices, but max brightness on a TouchWiz ROM is not max brightness. If you are in bright light and switch from max brightness to auto brightness, the screen gets brighter still. Is there any way to disable this with root?

Here's a video explaining what I mean:

Welcome to Android Central!

You could try using an app called Lux Auto Brightness and see if it does what you need.

Lux Auto Brightness does not solve this. I would assume there is something in /system or /sys to change this, but I have seen no such thing.

Lux should disable the auto boost. It did in my note 4
