Screen brightness keeps on spazzing out

My phone have this weird little glitch where the screen would random dim and the settings would change. The browser would also automatically go into power saving mode as well. My original Fascinate did this once in a blue moon, but it happened to me 3 times today alone. Also I hate how the screen gradually gets dim after it times out. When I would touch the screen, it would gradually get brighter again. Other phones/tablets that I have would get instant. Anyone know of any mod that I can flash to get rid of this?

P.S. Yes i know there is a separate brightness control in the browser. My problem is something else.

I apologize if you have already ruled this out but I thought I would check the obvious. Do you have automatic brightness turned on for the phone? Coming from the fascinate it sure seems like the GS3 changes brightness much more dramatically from what I was use to with my fassy...

I suggest trying the following:
1. menu -> settings -> display -> brightness and uncheck automatic brightness if it is on
2. change the screen timeout to something higher than the default (30 seconds sure was too short for my typical usage patterns)

When I flashed my roms, your are forced to do a factory reset. Well I guess I will have to change the default screen time out time to 1 minute now.
