So after not having success via the SDK to capture my Ally's screen (it would show my phone's MEID but had it as offline), I found an app in the market called Screen Shot It that did the trick.
The dev has it in both free trial (5 captures) and a paid version. It is for rooted phones, however, he said that it may work on some unrooted phones. Since I have not rooted my Ally yet, I gave it a shot and it worked. Also allows you to save the pics in different formats (i chose .jpeg) and is easy to do - can select a timer delay after clicking the button to take the pic. My main screen captured below.

Update: Shootme app also works on non-rooted Ally, however it was a little glitchy and the method for taking the pics isn't that great (shake, loud noise, cover light sensor) but is free vs $4.
